Any word on new lens deliveries?

I hear that deliveries of the M8 and the new lens models have come to a screeching halt due to the M8 issues. At the time I ordered my M8 I also ordered a new Elmarit 28/2.8. It seemed to me to be an ideal focal length, as well as especially suited for the M8 due to its compact size. Besides, it's a relative bargain.

But where are the 28/2.8's? One dealer in Germany has been expecting some "any day now" for three weeks. A large U.S. dealer was promised 16 before the end of November. He's received one and has zero word on more.

Has anyone heard anything about the lenses?

Or maybe --and maybe it's my impatience-- I should look at a 28/2 or a 24mm lens instead? Any thoughts here?

Thanks.

Try contacting Leica Berlin: Home. They were holding one for me last week until I decided to use my 30% to get the Cron.

Thanks. I sent them an E-mail today but received this reply:

"we don't have it in stock but it is ordered, only that I can´t really tell you when we get it"

I wonder if it's become vaporware ;)

I can only confirm that my dealer, large Leica Dealer in Hamburg, also does not know when and how many M8 or 28mm he will be getting.

Was expecting shipment of both this week but nothing and latest news is a 'possible' for next week leaving Solms so probably mid Dec. in shop, possibly.

I have a view that in the light of the M8 problems, they may have to revisit the new T-E, specifically the filter carrier/lens hood issue and the fact that (on the T-E I saw), there's no indication of the focal length selected via frame line selection lever and therefore the camera cannot tell which focal length is selected.

It might be this was deemed OK for the regular vignetting but we don't know how things are when you look through an IR-cut filter with a 16mm focal length lens. At that angle of view, the red cut may be so severe that restoring the red level in firmware reduces the DR and increases noise.

A 67mm filter is listed on the filter request form, but I wonder how the results are when you put it in front of the TE.

Somedays, I feel optimistic that this will all turn out OK, other times, I ask myself: "what ARE you doing?"

They must have sold it to someone else. It was there, I handled it and loved it, and went to get the money, but then I read lots about the two lenses and decided for the Cron.

For the new TE, I got a 67 to 55 step down so that I can use the same filters as other lenses - given the 1.33 multiplier, that should work fine. The normal 21mm lens uses a 55mm filter...as we said, ugly but it should work. and it won't actually stick out more than the lens hood (55mm screwin)

But I'm actually considering just punting the whole filter thing - I shoot B&W, would prefer not to have the soft focus in high IR areas, but maybe it is just better to go naked.
