bondipix Posted November 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys. Does anyone know how good an indicator the repair tracking service is? I have an M8 in repair for the dead pixel line thing and after typing the serial number into the appropriate box got the status: in repair. This was so for about a week and then it just stopped working - nothing comes up any more. I am hoping this indicates that it is on its way home but what do I know? Anyone have any knowledge they wish to impart on this? Thanks, Jon Jon Lister Photographer
Advertisement Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Hi bondipix, Take a look here Leica Repair Tracking. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
acanalda Posted November 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2009 Post them an email. I have used the tracking system twice and it works perfectly. When the repair is finished you can see "Repair Completed". Then the next step is "In delivery process" and the last one is "Delivered". So...ask Leica guys what happened. archi4 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2009 Try using the repair number which is on the written confirmation instead of the camera serial number. maurice
bondipix Posted November 16, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted November 16, 2009 Hi Thanks for the info - which email address would you use to contact them? I don't have a written confirmation - the camera was sent via my dealer. The serial number worked for a week or so. Guest mc_k Posted November 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2009 is this tracking just for Leica Germany? How can you track Leica USA repairs? thanks
double-m7 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2009 Exactly the same happened with my repair at Solms. It showed "in repair" for 3 weeks then went blank for a couple of days. I emailed Solms and they confirmed the repair was completed. Two days later it showed "shipping in progress", now again no reply on the repair website but according to the dealer the camera should arrive this week. Just email Solms, they usually reply within a couple of hours and can give you an estimate on the process. Good luck.
mhoersch Posted November 17, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) In my experience, the only thing the repair tracking is good for one thing only: if the item you sent to Solms for repair does show up at all you can at least be sure your package has arrived. Once the status is "in repair" nothing happens for as many weeks as your camera or lens rests on some Leica shelf waiting for its turn to come... ArtZ Posted November 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 17, 2009 Try using the repair number which is on the written confirmation instead of the camera serial number.maurice +1 When I tried my serial numbers, it never worked. You should use the "Service Order Number" Hi Thanks for the info - which email address would you use to contact them? I don't have a written confirmation - the camera was sent via my dealer. The serial number worked for a week or so. Cheers, Jon Jon Lister Photographer Jon, you should have received a letter (or an email) from Leica with detailed information about the repair: 1.- description and serial number(s) of the item(s) sent, 2.- list of accessories (if any: lens and camera caps, filters, batteries...), 3.- general condition of the items (light traces of use...). 4.- necessary parts and actions needed, 5.- labour costs... AND 6.- price to pay (or price you should have paid if the camera/lens(es) were not under warranty). The "Service Order Number" is written in bold and BIG characters on the upper right side of the document. You should also find your Customer Number and the date of arrival at Solms. If you send it through a dealer, it will be also written the dealer's order number and the date. If you haven't received this document, you should call them (or email them) and ask for it. They will send it by email using Adobe PDF format. In my experience, the only thing the repair tracking is good for one thing only: if the item you sent to Solms for repair does show up at all you can at least be sure your package has arrived. Once the status is "in repair" nothing happens for as many weeks as your camera or lens rests on some Leica shelf waiting for its turn to come... Manfred, I've been very unhappy with my M8s and with some repairs (I had to send the camera(s) and/or lens(es) back because the problem was still there or I had a new problem after repair) BUT the maxium I had to wait for a repair has been three weeks (including transport Paris-Solms-Paris!) (usually takes two weeks maximum, even for the M8 upgrade for both cameras and sensor replacement). Ms. Florence-Chantal Neumann (Customer Service, Solms) has left the Company at the end of October. There's a new person who repalces her, Ms. Gabriele Arnold. Guys, just be indulgent with her and her new job. I can tell you she's a nice person, VERY helpful and she will do her best to help you. Nicoleica Posted November 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 17, 2009 As an addendum to the excellent information and advice above from ArtZ and others, according to the Leica website, you can use your serial number to track repairs for up to 10 days from when Leica receive your item. Outside of this period, you really do need the SD/repair number. If you sent your camera in via a dealer, then they should be able to provide you with this, or, as previously mentioned, you can ask Leica for it. bondipix Posted November 17, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted November 17, 2009 Thanks for the response to my questions. I rang my dealer and they rang the distributor here in Australia; my M8 left Leica today and I have been advised that I should have it back in 10 days - Why it takes 10 days I cant tell you but at least I know its on its way... Looking forward to its return - I have missed it more that I thought I would. It is a great camera. Cheers, Jon My website most of which is M8, the rest is M6 with Tri-x or PKR 64 - you can work it out: Jon Lister Photographer
gearoido Posted November 17, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 17, 2009 is this tracking just for Leica Germany? How can you track Leica USA repairs? thanks My M8 is in NJ for the Uzi shutter. They originally sent me a letter with a repair # and a 1-800 number to call. They are very helpful when you call to check the status. GaryO
