wparsonsgisnet Posted November 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yowee, drove myself nuts. Here are 2 pic, taken at the same time. First is M8 with 35 'lux-a; second is M9 with 50 'lux-a. Please (!) not for artistic discussion. These are point and shoot shots and not even in focus. All I can say is that they are different. I tried to get the color balance the same...........fugetaboudit. Welcome, dear visitor! j_lir Posted November 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 15, 2009 you have the whole frame shots, i presume these are crop's?
chris_tribble Posted November 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2009 Bill - have you tried processing both in L2 3 beta. You may be able to get the WB better matched...
Doc Henry Posted November 15, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2009 Bill, 35 mm on M8 (equivalent in 47mm) and 50 mm on M9 I think that the first photo is closer to reality isn't ? the colour of the skin of the face or of the back differs between M8 and M9 for what reason ? Bill with same iso ?
jaapv Posted November 15, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2009 To be honest, the contrast is quite different too. That the colours differ should not come as a surprise, as the Bayer filters are different. Maybe a good idea to do this with a Macbeth chart?
Mauribix Posted November 15, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, anyway I'm sure that different lenses make big influence over colour rendition too. Probably more than just filter? Dunno, but it could be like that IMHO. To make the test correct, I guess it should be better to use the 35lux on the M9 too, then just crop the image to match the whole frame of the M8. okram Posted November 15, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 15, 2009 I suspect it is a joke. It is the same file just changed a little. The thing is- how can you have a moving dancer shot with two cameras and have such similar (or same-it seems to me) pictures...
Mauribix Posted November 15, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 15, 2009 If you think of Bill fooling us that way, it's because I'm sure you don't know him. He's a respectful and loyal friend here. Far from joking I'm sure.

okram Posted November 15, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 15, 2009 Yes, but he can also have fun. Maybe he has a special syncro M8-M8 machine called Leica synchroflex Or a friend shooting next to him?
Mauribix Posted November 15, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 15, 2009 Probably two tripods is more than enough. Those shots are really similar but bot the same, look at her right hand's fingers, and her hair. The shadow on her right arm is slightly different as well... I don't have a computer access right now, but I guess that the exif infos may keep any doubt off of you.
wparsonsgisnet Posted November 16, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted November 16, 2009 Both cameras on monopods, shot at as close to the same time as I could do it. Beats the hell out of me. AND, the bride IS standing still -- right here, reading this hilarious thread. I will post some pix from the M9. All I can say is it is F-----g Fantastic! I expect that the 50 and 35 don't have similar renditions of the image. The M8 was to the right, I think. Who the hell knows. These are blurred, don't match, I tried to make up for the previous post that didn't show the difference at all. I stick by my previous impression: the M9 has more light in the image and more detail (at 80% more pixels, it had better). It also feels more solid and the sw is more solid. Leica owes all of us (I am still an M8 owner) an upgrade for the M8 with the good parts of the M9 sw. Thanks for tuning in. I'll post some pix from tonite's show. The bride's dance was fantastic and her dancers were wonderful. Here's a taste from last nite. M9, 35 'lux-a, f1.4, 1/250, iso turned out to be 1600. Welcome, dear visitor! Bo_Lorentzen Posted November 16, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 16, 2009 Bill, Thank you for posting this, I suspect it will be raining comparisons shortly. Actually I was thinking about taking the 8 with 35 and the 9 with 50 down the street and do a couple of matching frames.. But as you said, regardless, i don't need to, I really like what is coming out of the M9 and don't feel a need to prove to myself what I see. . wparsonsgisnet Posted November 16, 2009 Author Share #16 Posted November 16, 2009 Tuesday nite, I'll try the comparison once more. I don't expect to be able to match the color of the sensor-lens combo, but I'll try to get some pix that are in focus this time. Once more.... wparsonsgisnet Posted November 16, 2009 Author Share #18 Posted November 16, 2009 Where did you round up so many magenta colored gals? I treat them magently, of courrse. Actually, there was a mag lite just above them. I had to take out all the red so that the 2 at the rear didn't look bloody.
