edlbell Posted November 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone heard how long one can expect it to take for the repair of "old" M8s? I have heard that to get the repair the dealer/owner should return the camera to Leica in NJ.
Advertisement Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Hi edlbell, Take a look here M8 Repair turnaround . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted November 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 29, 2006 I believe they are saying 10 days - obviously, the work will not take this long but to allow for the batching of shipments. I would much rather ship directly to Solms myself. DHL picked up some lenses for coding yesterday at 16:00. They were delived to Solms before 10:00 this morning. fotografr Posted November 29, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 29, 2006 Has anyone heard how long one can expect it to take for the repair of "old" M8s? I have heard that to get the repair the dealer/owner should return the camera to Leica in NJ. They have put a priority on getting them turned around as quickly as possible, but one hang-up could be the shipping to and from Germany due to customs checks. I know one person whose M8 was fixed and sent back in less than a week from the time it got to Germany, but the whole process took over 3 weeks due to shipping snags. marknorton Posted November 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 29, 2006 This was shipping lenses for coding, not the M8 for repair, so I paid. Shipping was about $80, obviously a premium service, but I wouldn't send $5k of lenses by regular mail. If you are near a major US hub, shipping times to Europe are 1 - 2 days longer. richedg Posted November 29, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 29, 2006 I am in New Zealand and I have just sent my camera by courier to Auckland where it will be sent on to Germany on Friday morning. I have been reasurred that I will have the camera back in two weeks. As New Zealand is a long way from Germany this sounds reasonable! I am just hoping that there will be no hold up as I want my new camera before Xmas. My camera dealer said that New Zealand will be one of the first countries to have their cameras fixed as on a very small number came down and so it was going to be easy to have them all fixed as a batch. I have had a confirmation that I will be receiving a 30% discount voucher for the purchase of new lens up to $2000 NZD in value. I now have to decide what would be the best lens to get. Best wishes
marknorton Posted November 29, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds like the Kiwi dealers have got their act together. Stark contrast to the UK where Leica UK and the dealers are in denial and paralysed by inaction. I might reasonably have expected to hear from my dealer about the recall but I have heard nothing. The second dealer I'm buying from are still saying they haven't had complaints from people they've sold to.

gman Posted November 29, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 29, 2006 My dealer in California told me about the lens discount, so it must be the real deal. However, he's quite angry about being cut out of all these lens sales. Anyone else hear anything from their dealers? jeff
edlbell Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted November 30, 2006 My dealer in California told me about the lens discount, so it must be the real deal. However, he's quite angry about being cut out of all these lens sales. Anyone else hear anything from their dealers? I was told by my dealer that anyone who had paid in full for a M8 before 12/31/06 was entitled to a certificate worth 30% off a lens. The lens needed to be purchased directly from Leica in Germany. richedg Posted November 30, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 30, 2006 My information was emailed to me by my camera dealer who had been sent the information by the Leica NZ importer. It confirms that there will be a 30% discount on Leica lens up to a maximum of $2000 NZD. Here is a copy from the letter sent to me from the camera dealer: 3. Compensation for customers who purchased and paid for M8’s before Dec. 31st, 2006 Specific measures designed to enhance customer loyalty should secure your Leica M8 business on a sustained basis. Please inform your customers, who purchased M8s from the initial shipment and prior to 27 November 2006, to register their camera after 6 December, at: http://www.leica-camera.us/photography/m_system/m8/ Leica will develop a personal communication and all registered customers will receive a letter from Leica’s CEO and an offer in the form of a voucher worth 30% off the SRP of any additional M lens, to a maximum of $2,000 including GST. My camera dealer said that i would be able to order the lens directly from him and that they would sort out the discount. It did not sound as if I would need to deal with Leica in Germany. The thing emphesised was that I must be registered on the leica website after December 6. I have ordered a 35 f1.4 lux lens to go with the M8. I am currently using a loaned CV 21 f4 lens. The CV 21 is a fun lens but it is slow and the supplied external viewfinder does not help to frame the shots as the M8 sees a 21mm lens as 28. I am very excited as the discount opens up the purchase of the Noct or some other high quality lens. Do you have suggestions? What would complement the 35 f1.4/
