jplomley Posted November 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased a new M7 last year and the pressure plate is the "dimpled" style. A friend just received his new M7 today, and the pressure plate is no longer the dimpled style (it is a solid piece). Has it been changed, and if so, why? rob_x2004 Posted November 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2009 No idea if there is rhyme or reason. Dont think it has anything to do with where or how the camera was destined to be used, not like tropical top on a landrover say. My MP is older, three years maybe, the plate is smooth. Saw recent silvers with dimpled. Smooth in the R9 too, but maybe dimpled in 6.2 come to think of it. I think I have seen older Ms with dimpled and smooth. This could go on QI. Bound to get a good answer then.
jplomley Posted November 15, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted November 15, 2009 Well Rob, that confuses the situation somewhat. Can those with an M7 check their pressure plate (smooth vs dimpled) and report the year the camera was purchased? I'm wondering if there is a functional difference between plates, or simply a supplier issue.
tgray Posted November 16, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2009 Mine is smooth. I bought it used so I don't know when it was made, but it has a serial number in the 280-290xxxxxx range. It has the new style silver box though.

jpattison Posted November 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Perhaps the dimples gives better performance with the motor drive? I'm assuming the dimples are convex? John
wizard Posted November 23, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 23, 2009 I'm assuming the dimples are convex? No, they are concave (although not truly so), i.e. little recesses in the pressure plate. I seem to recall that my first M7 had a smooth plate, while the replacement I received last year has the dimpled variety. I will check at home whether this is true or whether it was the other way round. Andy
wizard Posted November 24, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 24, 2009 As a follow-up, my current M7 does have the dimpled pressure plate. Serial no. is 332xxxx, while my old one (which had the smooth plate) was 297xxxx. So the change must have occurred somewhere inbetween. harryzet Posted November 24, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 24, 2009 does it matter? do you see differences in your pictures?
wizard Posted November 24, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 24, 2009 does it matter? do you see differences in your pictures? Nein Matthias, es mattert nicht, aber es muss auch nicht alles mattern, was einen interessiert. Man muss aber zu nicht matternden Dingen nix schreiben, gelle?
