Leica R to Canon 5DII - A bit of sharing

Hello,

I have been very frustrated with losing 35mm or wider range R lens normal usage on FF camera 5DII. Yet, If I am really desparate, I can still do so with steps as follows:

1. Mount R to EOS adaptor on 5DII

2. Turn on live view

3. Then with the mirror locked, I plug in 19, 24 or whatever lens with back sticking out

4. Use 10x to focus and then recompose the photo (estimates only but usually good due to great DOF)

5. MUST Take out the lens before turning camera off **** (If the adapter in use has focus confirmation, must take out the lens from the adapter first or mirror will close automatically.)

By doing so, I can use all R lens without problem. Must must be very clear minded. I don't know the consequence of having 5D mirrow slap on the lens rear. Maybe the camera will break.

Just sharing. Again, this can be a high risk move.

Cheers,

Ben

One more thing -

When use live view, must try to shoot fast as a habit.

Once the camera left idle time is over, the camera will close the mirror. Thus, must change the auto power off setting to much much longer time.

Again, this is a desperate move for pissed off time as R users.

Happy shooting.

Or you could shave a few millimeters of the lens with a Dremel tool, Ben. There are some very good instructions available on the web including how to mask the camera to prevent dust causing problems and it took me no more than half an hour from start to finish including cutting spare cardboard for dust baffles etc. :)

Incidentally, I don't believe that the mirror slap on the back of the lens is a problem because during testing, prior to shaving the mirror, this unavoidably happened to a number of my lenses (19/2.8, 80-200/4, 28-90 Vario asph) and there was no damage because the 5DII's mirror, which is slightly larger than the 5D's, is very light.

Pete.
