bluebeard Posted November 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) First time post here. Just bought the D-Lux 4 (though secretly, I want the M8 now) and was wondering what kind of protection do D-Lux 4 owners have on it? Screen protection, shell protection, etc? Thanks! carlosecpf Posted November 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2009 if you are worried about the resale value of your D-Lux 4, you should buy the "Invisible Shield" full body protection. It is a transparent film that covers completely the camera body and costs around US$20. It doesn't add bulk nor change the looks of your camera, but protect it against scratches and dings. I have it on mine and strongly recommend it. Just google it: invisible shield leica d-lux and you will get to their website.

kalina Posted November 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2009 When I have my D-Lux 4 in my purse or bag, I always wrap it in a cloth to protect it. I'm very particular about actually feeling the camera and not touching some rubber or poly coating. If you bought it to be displayed in a museum, then coating it with rubber or poly is fine, but if you're actually using it, then the rubber or poly is a waste, in my opinion. John Z. Goriup Posted November 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2009 My very first post ! I submit it's not only about protection, it's also making the thing more capable and user-friendly (Jeez how I hate that word....but I can't think of a more appropriate one). Here's what I've done: 1. Lensmate sleeve over lens for protection & ability to use filter / polarizer. 2. 24mm M series viewfinder off my M6 since D-Lux 4 doesn't have an optical viewfinder 3. Lensmate grip to provide firmer grip and much better ergonomics. 4. Giotto Schott Glass LCD protector ( model SP 8300 ). No dedicated unit available yet, but this comes very close....a bit of overhang on top & bottom, but it fits viewing area well. ( Yes, I know it's upside down, I was in a hurry) Altogether, these additions have made it into a great walking-around camera which is instantly available. I usually wear it around my neck, as I'm used to doing with my M6. Love this camera. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! jsrockit Posted November 13, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2009 These cameras are a lot more durable than people think... get a screen protector if you must and just use it...
nicefor88 Posted November 18, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 18, 2009 I use the black leather Leica case I purchased together with the camera. Article number 18690 on the Leica catalogue. It's top quality and will last for years, just like other Leica products. That's why I don't mind paying the price!
