alexc Posted November 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did somebody try this lens on M9? I rarely have a need for telephoto lenses, but from time time I would use one, mostly when I am traveling. What I like is the the size and I accept that it is not the fastest lens. I also will not use it for macro.
Advertisement Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Hi alexc, Take a look here LEICA MACRO-ELMAR-M 90 mm f/4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chrism Posted November 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2009 I used one on an M7 and an M8 and found it small, light and very sharp (once I read the manual and did the twist to lock it extended!) The relatively poor macro function and the f4 aperture led to it being sold, so I have no experience with it on the M9. Chris
jonoslack Posted November 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 10, 2009 It's a great lens . . . . but I found that the fiddliness of having to extend it more than made up for the benefit in size. . . . . so I sold mine. I'd buy one of the nice new summarit's, or a secondhand last model elmarit instead. Not much bigger, but much more convenient.
dpattinson Posted November 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2009 Brett uses one on the M9, he likes it if I recall. I recently swapped a 90 Summicron for one, as the cron rarely saw any use due to weight and size (and I rarely use a long lens anyway). The 90 macro-elmar means i have less to carry and i can use it for macro shots if the need arises as well. I tested it at f4 on the M8 to see what it's like for portraits and it was good enough for me. I expect it would be just as good on the M9 (but more useful focal length). dkCambridgeshire Posted November 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2009 Try an Elmar-C 90mm f4 for £150 (ish) and save a lot of ££ ... it is a high contrast lens with performance equal to faster pre aspheric 90mm lenses within its aperture range. Lens was originally made for the Leica CL . Cheers dunk

tom0511 Posted November 11, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have one. Its sharp and I like the handling. The Bokeh however is not as smooth as that from the 90/2.8 for example or from the 75 Summarit. Thats why I only use the 90 macro for either macro or for travelling light. russell Posted November 11, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2009 I bought a used one last month. It's small and lightweight. Therefore I'm more likely to take it along with me. In general I'd probably use it 10% of the time. Haven't had it long enough to comment on the image quality. Looking forward as we better noise control at higher ISOs this lens will come back onto the radar screen for people.
bybrett Posted November 12, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2009 It was one of my favourite film lenses for travel. Never really used it on M8 but I love it with M9 - this is at f4.
