Have just started to use the RAW image format on my LC1 but have struck an odd problem. The image is saved as RAW and can viewed as a RAW image in the camera but when I download it appears as a JPEG image of only 1.1mb! Have tried two separate SanDisks in case it was a disk problem but it happens with both. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Ramon,

Welcome to the forum!

Actually what you're viewing on the camera's LCD is the JPEG, it dosen'r render the RAW file.

That asside, are you using the camera as a reader or do you use a separate card reader? The latter is recommended as it removes a lot of grief it is also a lot faster. Card readers are cheap and easy to come by these days.

Sounds like you might be using photo display software to download the photos, something like iphoto or a pc equivalent. It will only download the jpeg file which is produced along with the raw file. You have to mount the camera on the desktop and navigate to it like any hardrive and drag the raw files into a folder on your computer. This is how I do it on my mac but I think a PC should be similar.

In the PC world, if you have Adobe Photoshop or Elements, you can use Adobe's DNG converter. Simply plug the cable from the camera to your computer, open the DNG converter, set the source as whatever drive the camera is plugged into (e.g., D drive, E drive, etc.), drill down a bit to where the files are, select your destination file, and then hit convert. This will convert the RAW files into DNG's on your computer. You can then further convert them into JPEG's through Adobe Camera Raw. Hope this helps.

I think we need a bit more information from you. Mac or PC? What software are you using or intending to use to process the RAW file?

Brian - I'm using a laptop with Win XP SP2. Thanks for the other replies. I used to own a Canon G5 and RAW files downloaded into Canon ZoomBrowser along with the standard JPEG images. I still use ZoomBrowser as the software supplied with the LC1 is not that flash. I do have Photoshop CS2 so will try what Skass suggested.

Thanks to you all.

Thanks Steve - you were right on the money and problem solved. Downloaded them to a folder and the RAW part of the image opens OK in Camera Raw in CS2. What thru me was that RAW images from my old G5 opened automatically in Zoombrowser as a CRW file and I thought the same would happen with the LC1. Many thanks to all of you who responded - a great forum for learning. Must say the LC1 is one of the most intuitive cameras I've ever owned and am very pleased with the results. Cheers Ramon
