M9 in NYC

I wonder how many M9 owners are out there snapping away happily, without being active in this forum? Many folks don't bother with forums unless they have a problem; perhaps that explains some of the perceived "silence" from NYC and Chi-Town?

it is certainly true that most M9 owners will not be posting on the forum... Maybe 10%?

but there is also some kind of real delay here with Solms... I placed my order over a month ago in NYC with a smaller dealer. At that time they certainly expected delivery by late October. Now they have no idea and say they get 1 camera every 10 days- and have no idea if that will change. Their pre-orders are growing faster than deliveries.

When I think of the bigger dealers with 100's of outstanding orders in the USA alone- and then all the other orders all over the world- and Solms making 50 units a day- if they actually are currently in production- I start to think I may well not have a camera until mid next year.

Lord Knows- I hope I am just pessimistic and dead wrong. One of the great advantages of being naturally pessimistic is if you are proved wrong you are very happy about it...

On the Leica website in the "News" section they don't even have 09/09/09 listed as a major recent event? Certainly no word I can find on deliveries or lack thereof...

But I did read in the official Leica M9 material, that, 'cameras would be avialable as of 09/09/09 at your local dealer' or words that that affect...

Does anyone have any recent news concerning what is going on?

This launch may have exposed an inherent weakness in dealing with a large dealer for launches like this where stock is limited. The "mega" leica dealers in every country have been strangled for stock and overwhelmed with orders. Out of the way dealers seem to be getting the same amount of stock as they share around the allocation.

It hurts when you see two M9's bought of the shelf in Texas and Orlando when you can only imagine how many orders the NYC gang have.

I've been watching the "delivery " thread with great interest.

What amazes me is the lack of entries from the big two:

Adorama

B&H

any idea why?

Well, I received my Leica M9 from Adorama, in NYC; and, in addition the Leica 24mm f/1.4, 50mm f/0.95, and 90mm f/2.0 lenses. I believe they could have been getting more of the M9 black bodies (the type I wanted and received); but, if so, they're going to "pre-orders", and so have not been listed on the web site as "in-stock". The one customer review posted on the Adorama site, for the M9 so far, is the one I submitted. In addition, I submitted a similar customer review there for the lenses I just mentioned. :-)
