New S2 Samples

These remind me of large format photos from the 50s and 60s in International Photo Technik. (Linhof.) They are very static and posed. I think the challenge with the S2 and MF cameras will be getting the shots in focus when the subject is a bit more "active." I would bet that once you get any activity, a high res 35mm DSLR will give a greater percentage of focused images, thus undercutting the benefit of the higher resolution MF systems.

Yeah I did see those - missunderstand me wrong here.

With all due respect... the images do look wonderfully sharp, and well lighted

Clearly the worlds most sofisticated dSLR do not save us from poor photography and modeling. now lets see when somebody with some serious chops get their hands on the S2... Im sure it will be raining great images at some point. but that is not yet.

You didn't expect the camera to choose the model and composition, did you?

LOL... No Doug, I did not expect the camera to compose for me.

What I meant was, these profi-days images leave me bored. I want to see somebody like YOU shoot the camera in a real enviroment. Leica would do much better letting you take the camera for a while, that would create some stunning S2 images (which you could have created on any system for that matter).

Just my two cents, by all means, i do NOT hate the S2, I just want to see it used by artist rather than amateurs at profi-days. lets see this baby pushed to its limits.

and no, Im not buying one this year.

havn't we seen 1000s of photos like that? what is new IQ-wise?

yes, even more than that. But what's the problem? Anyway more funny than 10000 birds, and btw. I think it was not the idea behind those pictures to show something new, except the camera.

For me it would have been more intersting to see a comparison with other cameras, but better this than nothing ......

You're very kind :)

I'd love to give the S2 a test drive however if my experience with other cameras is any guide I'd need to use it for quite a while before I learn how to take advantage of, and showcase, it's unique strengths.

Enough of the model portraits. (We've already pixel peeped at this type of picture.) You folks with the S2s, such as you factory people who read this site, give us full .dng files of the pictures you are taking outside. We know you are out there. LFI has some of these this month, although they too are faily limited in scope. Wildlife pictures would be great; and we know the right person regular to this site who can take them. Lend him an S2.

Is this request too hard to accommodate? Go outside, take some pictures, post them at full res somewhere we can all get to them.

Why is it that sample photos made to propagate a new camera model invariably turn out to be either technically totally inadequate or of such such boring content that you are driven to tears - or both? If the S2 really is supposed to revolutionize photography, can't Leica find any photographer at all who has learnt his trade and can produce a sample image that has the potential to stir at least some mild interest in a potential buyer?

Manfred,

agree, and it should not be too hard, unlike the M9, the S2 is announced and being handled, lets get it out to a couple of car shooters, one or two nature and a couple of documentary shooters, lets pick some known for cool light so we can see this camera getting challenged by serious contrast, motion and details.. Why not donate one or two of these to a couple of National geographic photographers for some real punishment..

Since the camera is released, this could be done officially and get some press out of it.
