Excellent photographs and certainly proves the worth of Leica lenses - especially the 35mm Summicron Mk IV.

And the blow-ups are very revealing of what can be achieved with Leica glass.

You are probably correct - I assumed the photo just above the section title 'Perfection or unique' was taken with a Mk IV because it is so sharp with a very pleasing out of focus bokeh. Perhaps the Mk I is also a bokeh king. I did not realize the Mk I could be quite so sharp at full aperture.

It's the Version I and it's sharp. But when blown up to 100% with slightly milky edges to everything. I've always admired this lens for film where the slide film scans in them self has this milky edge. But in digital you notice when viewing in 40" screen-size (and you notice that the ASPH lenses does not have these soft milky edges).

 

In print it's not an issue, though I have big respect for micro-details because they tend to sum up the "unexplainable aesthetics" in a picture (like in music where the clear and true separation of micro details lift the sound and music to new hight).

For several years, attending American Bar Association meetings and seeing photographers covering them, hunched over, round-shouldered and burdened with two Nikon or Canon DSLR's and a battery of artillery-piece zoom lenses, I have routinely said to them: 'can you imagine how much strain you would take off your neck, back and shoulders and how much faster you would work if you bought a Leica and 2 or 3 small Leica lenses?' They ALWAYS say: 'I'd ADORE to own a Leica but can't afford one'. My recent responses have been: 'buy a pre-owned Leica M8.2 and a couple of pre-owned lenses and you'd be shocked at how little it is.'
