pklein Posted November 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone compared the "pre-aspheric" 35 Summicron, version 4 with a good sample of the Voigtlander 35/2.5? I'd be interested in both comments and pictures. I have the 35 'Cron. It's my daylight "normal" lens. Usually I love it, but sometimes it gets veiling flare with even moderate backlight. --Peter
Advertisement Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Hi pklein, Take a look here 35/2 Summicron v4 vs. Voigtlander 35/2.5 on M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ShivaYash Posted November 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 5, 2009 the 35/2 'cron the my M8's body cap and its never flared on me. I usually shot wide open in bright conditions, love 1/8000th on the M8! Do you have a hood for the lens? I don't think there would be much comparison here, I love Voigtlander lenses, but the 35/2 'cron (4th) is the king of bokeh, and I think it would be unfair to compare it against the Voightlander. LotharZhou Posted November 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 5, 2009 I have used 2 Voigtlander 35/2.5 pancake lens, none is them is a good example, maybe bad luck or something, CV's quality control is a main issue, both have strong soft corner or edges, one of them is nearly unusable. Don't reckon the Summicron is in the same league of CV lens.
jsrockit Posted November 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 5, 2009 If you already have the Leica lens...I would get rid of it. Buy the VL pancake lens used for like $250 and try it... if you don't like it, then re-sell it.
ShivaYash Posted November 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 5, 2009 this, in my humble opinion reflects what the 35/2 does best... discreet portraits.
Printmaker Posted November 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 5, 2009 I have both lenses. The Voightlander is a tad sharper and has more contrast but I actually like the rendition of the Summicron v4 better. The Summicron has that famous Leica glow where the CV merely outstanding. That glow will run you an extra $1,000. If you want a merely outstanding 35, I could part with my mint copy for say... $250 (with box and shade). PM me if you are interested. The first shot is the CV 35 the second is the 35 Cron v4. Tom
