germio Posted November 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm thinking about getting this lens for my M6 (0.72x finder). I guess the optical quality of this lens is not to be doubted, but how about the ergonomics? It's quite a bit longer than the 4th gen 35/2M (which to me has the best ergonomics of all M wide angles) so I'm wondering if this lens protrudes into the viewfinder and if the camera gets front-heavy when the lens is mounted? Any other tips appreciated. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Hi germio, Take a look here 4th gen 28/2.8M for M6. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
alun Posted November 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2009 Germio -- I owned one of these briefly last year but swapped it for the latest ASPH Elmarit 28/2.8 -- precisely because the ergonomics of that lens are so close to the 35/2 vsn 4, which I use almost all the time. The fourth gen 28/2.8 is a large and heavy-ish lens but I don't recall that it obstructs the VF particularly. Using the newer 28/2.8 ASPH is really a quite different experience -- it is lighter, and has a faster focus throw. Optically however I rather liked the old fourth gen. -- it's quite low contrast, which some prefer. Had the opportunity to swap it for the ASPH Elmarit not arisen, however, I would have kept the older lens quite happily, although your experiencemay vary -- especially if a 28 is your preferred focal length. For me it is an occasional use lens, as a wider deeper DOF alternative to the 35/2. Hope this helps.
Carl E Posted November 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 4, 2009 Hi I have had both lenses, a v4 28 Elmarit for my M6 TTL 0.58x and now the ASPH version which I use on my M8. I prefer the ASPH Elmarit mainly beacuse of the compactness of the ASPH lens/hood combo. The v4 Elmarit interferes a bit more with the viewfinder than the ASPH, even without the lens hood, but the Summicron-28 style hood adds significantly to the bulkiness of the setup. Image quality wise you cannot go wrong with any of them Best regards, Carl
