I have spent a fruitless day hunting down 486 Filters in Leica sizes....

One UK supplier I spoke to said they were not expecting deliveries until the New Year and most of that allocation was allready sold !!!

Can anyone tell me if they know where I can track down 49mm. 52mm, and 55mm filters I will be very grateful...I may even consider a swap for a spare battery

Tim, be warned that Oege-Energy (the supplier in Guy's link) may not actually have stock of the filters - despite what the auction listing may say. I bought a couple of 486 filters in E46 size nearly three weeks ago via their eBay auction and they have yet to ship them. I queried this and was told "the B & W company told us, that they have delivery problems with some filters. Please be a little bit patient, we will sent the item asap." I doubt that that they will get stock any quicker than other suppliers.

I good source in Germany for B+W filters is Foto Huppert. I have ordered one UV/ IR-Cut 486 39 mm screw-in-typ suitable for my Summicron-M 50 mm and the new Elmarit-M 28 mm two weeks ago. It arrived last friday.

I am not sure if they accept customers from outside Germany. Maybe it's worth a try. eMail: info@foto-huppert.de

Web (German only): http://www.foto-huppert.de/

They certainly will. Even to Israel, which is often difficult. Now we'll see if the order goes through and how backlogged they have become. But their prices are quite low, compared to some of the prices I have heard quoted in the US.

I ordered 49mm and 55mm filters from this ebay merchant. They came by airmail the first of last week, about a week after I ordered them.

As mentioned above, you may want to confirm they have them in stock.

I ordered a B+W 486 55mm from Amazon on Nov. 10 & it finally arrived today from their partner, with the invoice specifing the filter as ordered, but they shipped a Heliopan ES instead!! Looks like the B+W 486s are scarce & the partner thinks we have no choice but to take anything. We will see!

Curious, I just had the same problem with Amazon, this time Amazon.de. They shipped me a filter in a box labelled B&W 486 chrom52. It was a 52mm, all right. but the filter inside was a B&W 010 UV skylight filter. (worth a lot less!). Understanding the instructions for returns in German is a learning experience. This one came from Amazon itself, not from a partner.

Thanks for all the advice.

I have bought and paid for one of the filters I need from the ebayer Guy found.

Following the advice of other members I emailed first to check he was holding stock, and it looks promising so far.....

Thanks again.

Strange that this would happen to two different people. I wonder if someone out there is buying expensive filters from Amazon, and returning cheap ones!

Good idea to get a confirmation on stock on hand. I ordered a B+W from B&H two weeks ago and got it three days later. Ordered another from Adorama the same day, still do not have it, despite assurances that it was shipped.

To clairify in my case, the Heliopan filter was in a Heliopan plastic case.

That's even less excusable. You apparently dealt with an Amazon partner, while I got one of the 3 filters originally listed as in stock at Amazon.de itself, before the filter frenzy started. I wonder what the other two buyers received? Some sort of return confusion might be involved, as the box and the sticker with barcode on the outside said 486, but inside was clearly an 010. I think I'll just get my money back, and deal with Foto_Huppert in the future.
