thirdwheel Posted October 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi to fellow forum members, I just received my 65mm Elmar and have tried fitting it onto my Visoflex. Have a query though: How do we determine the correct lighting? (Does it mean we peer through the MP viewfinder to check lighting?) Thanks.
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Hi thirdwheel, Take a look here Elmar 65mm and Visoflex on the MP - how to use the camera lightmeter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted October 27, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2009 Hello, There are only two ways to do this: Raise the mirror of the Visoflex, look through the MP's viewfinder and adjust the exposure as you would with a 'regular' lens. Use a hand-held lightmeter. I find the first option rather cumbersome - this would probably best be done with the camera/viso combination mounted on a tripod. Personally, I prefer to use a hand-held lightmeter. Best, Jan
michali Posted October 27, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2009 Congratulations on your new acquisition, I hope you get as much pleasure out of it as I have with mine. I agree about the hand held light meter, even though I normally guesstimate the light reading. After a while you get a very good feel for calculating it yourself. We're dealing with digital after all and the results are immediately available. Play around and experiment as much as you can, that's half the fun! Thinking back to the days of film and my Leica IIIf & M3, I lost count of the number of frames I trashed playing around with different exposure settings, must have been hundreds. Enjoy! UliWer Posted October 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2009 I think the Visoflex had some sort of comeback with the introduction of automatic light metering with the M7 and M8. I can only admire those people who used it successfully without this aid.
jc_braconi Posted October 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2009 How do we determine the correct lighting? (Does it mean we peer through the MP viewfinder to check lighting?) It works fine, just practice and... practice.
spydrxx Posted October 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2009 I thought it would be pretty easy when I got my M6, but alas, I found that hand held metering (or the sunny 16 rule) was faster and less cumbersome. Now with only an M4 and the Viso gear, I'm in my comfort zone with a handheld meter.
thirdwheel Posted October 27, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi fellow forum users, thanks for the kind advice. Will try both methods. Any suggestion of a simple external lightmeter? Best Regards.
