brt3 Posted October 27, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) how big is the "desert island"? Bigger than Ni'ihau. Smaller than Lana'i. Perfect sand and ideal surf for playing around on my kayak... ...sigh... Can you tell that Winter is here?

Rick Posted October 27, 2009 Share #24 Posted October 27, 2009 I walked around Italy this summer for 3 weeks and took 99% of my pictures with the 28/2 on the M8. I also had the WATE, 50/1.4 and the 75 lux and only used the WATE on occasion. I'd like to try our trip to Spain next summer with just the M9 and the 35 cron... liberating. So, I'd have to say that my vote would be for the 35cron as the one lens kit.
twittle Posted October 27, 2009 Share #25 Posted October 27, 2009 I'm a member of the 35/75 crowd, but here's another thought: being a desert island, one might presumably want to dabble in close-ups (if not outright macros) of the local flora and fauna. How 'bout the 90 Macro-Elmar plus adapter? It performs quite well and is versatile, if not extremely fast. It's also relatively small.
Jeff S Posted October 28, 2009 Share #26 Posted October 28, 2009 Ray, also remember that you have a lever on the front of your camera to preview framelines for focal lengths you aren't using. This will give you an idea of what would fill the frame. And, don't forget to use your feet...your 35 can quickly become your 50...and vice versa. You'll stay fit and save money simultaneously. johnbuckley Posted October 28, 2009 Share #27 Posted October 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll take the question literally, from the title. More than one lens, in survival mode: 35 Summilux, 75 Summicron.
colorflow Posted October 28, 2009 Share #28 Posted October 28, 2009 One lens 35 Lux Two lenses 28 Cron, 50 Lux Three lenses 28 Cron, 50 Lux, and 90 Cron for portrait or 90 Fat Elmarit for travel.
carstenw Posted October 28, 2009 Share #29 Posted October 28, 2009 No caves. No darkness. Only sun. Must have sun... Well, then, the Hologon. That lens is always "there" (in the sense of "f/8 and be there") I choose 4 lenses, the same as for anything: 21/2.8A, 28/2A, 50/1,4A, 90/2A.
yanidel Posted October 28, 2009 Share #30 Posted October 28, 2009 It depends. Does the desert island have people? If I would tend to believe that there is no on else on a "desert" island ... Unless of course Penelope Cruz is the only other survivor of that plane crash. In that case, I would not worry too much about my lens kit. More seriously, I am heading the 35mm Lux Asph + 75mm Cron way with the M9. It will cover about anything and have similar looks.
swamiji Posted October 28, 2009 Share #31 Posted October 28, 2009 No caves. No darkness. Only sun. Must have sun... Then there is no need for any Lux... then MATE, WATE, Macro-

More seriously, I am heading the 35mm Lux Asph + 75mm Cron way with the M9. It will cover about anything and have similar looks. I have to assume that, yes indeed, Penelope might just happen to be on the same flight and be as good a swimmer as I. After thinking about it I have been seriously leaning towards the same combo you describe. The only thing tempting me to go wider -- to 28 -- are the rave reviews I read on the 28/2 Cron. Guess I should also grab one of those A&A submarine bags -- to survive the swim to the island...
brill64 Posted October 28, 2009 Share #33 Posted October 28, 2009 my advice would be to keep the Hexanon 50/1.2 lens and use it on the m9. if you can't find any info, be the first to test it out and show us the results. you could even keep the Konica Hexar RF as a backup camera also bearing in mind what you would stand to lose on that sale. you don't "need" 6-bit coding, you have an m9. you could manually input lens info as near as dammit to a 50/1.2 as you can. test it, share the results before deciding to sell. give yourself some more time

But the M9 is not weather sealed ... sorry to break your hopes, the swim scenario does not work anymore. I also own the 28mm Cron. Most people are very happy about but I am not. I much prefer the 35mm Lux Asph rendering, especially at 1.4.
Jeff S Posted October 28, 2009 Share #35 Posted October 28, 2009 I love my 28 cron...on my M8.2. Wouldn't love it so much on the M9, since with glasses, framelines would not be easily seen...and that's important for me (and I don't like external finders). jbgeach Posted October 28, 2009 Share #37 Posted October 28, 2009 I have an M8 and absolutely love it. My two lenses are the 21 and 50. So, I would go with a 28 and 75 on the m8.
loksi Posted October 29, 2009 Share #38 Posted October 29, 2009 If I eventually get an M9 it will be: One Lens = 35mm Lux Asph (already possess) Two Lenses = 35mm Lux Asph; 90mm Elmarit (hope to add) Three Lenses = 35mm Lux Asph; 90mm Elmarit; 50mm Lux Asph (as an absolute best combo for my usage) I may content myself with the one lens (35mm) for quite a while, and even that depends on whether and when I ever manage to obtain an M9. The longer the waiting lists, the longer to think about all that expenditure , and perhaps revisit the idea of the M8.2 Of course an M8.2 would possibly alter the lens lineup ... (35/75 maybe?) brt3 Posted October 29, 2009 Author Share #39 Posted October 29, 2009 Anyone know of a good source for lightly-used lenses? Like, perhaps, a 35mm Lux ASPH in chrome? I'm really thinking, at this point, of starting with the M-Hexanon 50mm f/1.2 I already have, and then sandwiching it between the 35mm Lux and 75mm Cron. I really think I'll be OK with the swim if I toss the A&A Submariner into a big Ziploc...
jbl Posted October 29, 2009 Share #40 Posted October 29, 2009 I went with the 21/2.8, 35/2, 50/2 combination. Though I went with the 50/2 instead of the 50/1.4 because I wanted to get the Noctilux as well. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have gotten the 50 Summilux. The combination works great (with film at least) and the small size of the Summicrons is really nice. -jbl
