carlosecpf Posted October 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, Based on your feedback, the pictures I've taken at night with my D2 without a tripod have improved considerably! At least to my eyes! Here are two examples:
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Hi carlosecpf, Take a look here D2 pictures at night! Finally steady!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted October 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2009 Carl - Good examples. The amazing lack of vibration (and noise) in the D2 is a big help.
ho_co Posted October 27, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2009 Good work, Carl! Where do I find the advice from which you say you learned? Looks like I can learn something as well! BTW--Do you use the D2 WA adapter much? I understand it's heavy; how is it optically? Thanks!
stuny Posted October 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2009 Howard - Use the same techniques that firearms target shooters do: feet at shoulder width, knees not locked, elbows in, take a deep breath and let half out, hold remaining breath, squeeze the shutter button so that you don't know precisely when it will fire. After practicing enough it becomes automatic and you don;'t have to think about it. This allows me to take even 1/2 second hand-held shots with my D2. BTW: You can see some hand-held shots, all corpped at least some, from Friday night at a concert: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/103743-gracious-charming-energetic-entertaining-75-four.html
krabat Posted October 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2009 Hi Carlos, nice pictures with an interesting habit. Did you try different exposure times? For the second image, I would use a shorter exposure in order to avoid the bright glare of the lamps. What other parameters (white balance, contrast, saturation, etc.) did you use? Best regards, Peter.

Ho-co, Here is the thread I've mentioned in my post: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/99021-best-practices-night-shots-d2.html Unfortunately i don't use the WA adapter that much, but I am planning to use it more often. It is big and heavy, but the image quality is simply superb.

carlosecpf Posted October 28, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted October 28, 2009 Hi Carlos, nice pictures with an interesting habit. Did you try different exposure times? For the second image, I would use a shorter exposure in order to avoid the bright glare of the lamps. What other parameters (white balance, contrast, saturation, etc.) did you use? Best regards, Peter. Hi Peter, I didn't have the time to try various exposures because it started raining! The parameters of this picture are: Aperture: 2.0 Shutter speed: 1s Exposure bias: 0ev ISO: 100 Focal length (35mm): 42mm WB: Cloudy than I have played with contrast, levels, vibrancy and colors in Aperture 2.1.
