rebelfocus Posted October 24, 2009 Share #21 Posted October 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes it will. Not sure why another poster says it won't. The diopter lenses have thickness, and it's not that thin and it is not a painted on rubber coating around it. Any added thickness to the eyepiece will change the angle of view of the viewfinder window, increasing the tunnel you look through. I said "It doesn't really" ... this is a nuance of language meaning not in any significant way. In my experience, it doesn't change the visibility of the 28mm framelines or if it does it's so slight that I cannot tell the difference. Others may have a different experience. The original poster asked for views. P.S. The metal rim is ~ 1mm thick (but I only have a -1, maybe stronger magnifications have thicker rims? Advertisement Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Hi rebelfocus, Take a look here Can you see the M9 28mm frame lines?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted October 24, 2009 Share #22 Posted October 24, 2009 There is the matter of eye relief -- the distance from your cornea to the eyepiece lens. This should be less with a diopter than with specs, and less enforced eye relief *should* mean a larger field of view. I do not notice much of a difference however. Admittedly, I wear fairly small-framed specs with relatively thin lenses, so I can bring the eyeball up close. I still cannot see the short edges of the 28mm frame on my M4 (0.72x finder). So I do prefer to use an accessory 28mm finder whenever the shoe is not otherwise occupied. The M9 'should' be easier with its 0.68x finder, but this is not so. It seems that the M4-P, M6 etc 28mm frames were simply squeezed in as best as could be managed, without much concern for accuracy. The M9 frame may be more accurate, but is still not completely visible for specs wearers. So my 28mm finder will still find employment. The old man from the Age of the Brilliant Finder Lars, Has your M4 got the factory VF upgrade, as my M4 has only 35/50/90/135 framelines. As my M4 is off for a total service at the moment, I was wondering whether to get the framelines upgraded to the 28/35/50/75/90/135 set. I do use my Tri-Elmar on my M4 and to date have just been using the outside of the VF for framing. Using a 75 is a bit difficult as well.
