Bombay street dogs

Thanks Paul, yes some of the dogs by western standards are in pretty poor shape, but they all appear happy. It hit me hard when I first met a few of them, but after spending some time, feeding them, carrying out first aid where needed, I realised that these street dogs are real fighters, they are survivors, and if you show them some affection, they remember you and their tales wag all the time!

Thank you for these pictures! I think it is very important to show how animals have to live and how easy it can be to help them with some care.

I experienced the same on Sicily - a lot of dogs and cats trying to survive in a world where would be enough for both mankind and animals. They are not hunted and killed (like in Hungary or Spain) but they are left to their fater. The wild cats and dogs on Sicily are friendly but extremely anxious. We always feed them when we are on the way - and how thankful they are!

One of these cats (it was hurt in a life-threatening way, probably by a car) was taken to our home in Austria by us, survived and is still living and loving, but this is another story - maybe another time with pictures.

Regards,

Johannes

Shiva -

Excellent series. In 1989 we traveled quite a bit in Italy and Greece. We found street cats in Rome to be in very poor condition and clearly mistreated, especially compared to the street cats in Greece which were open, friendly and healthy.
