wilfredo Posted October 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got a Leica Time soft shutter release button from Luigi and I wish I had done so three years ago when I got my M8. I highly recommend it. The shutter release ergonomics is much improved for only $19.00. I'm leaving it on the camera permanently and only removing it if I have to use a cable release. Go Luigi! To find these buttons do an ebay search for: S/STEEL SOFT RELEASEfor LEICA M2,M3,M4,M6,M7,MP,M8,MORE

Guest mc_k Posted October 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2009 Do you lose the exposure lock (second shutter button position) with that soft-release like you do with the Tom A. release? Does it have a tendency to unscrew itself?
mzcloud Posted October 21, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2009 I have found that Luigi is pretty slow in responding emails. Maybe he is too busy
brill64 Posted October 21, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2009 put a tiny dab of clear nail varnish on the soft release thread to help secure it in place or keep a spare softie in your camera bag because they have a habit of working themselves loose
Guest mc_k Posted October 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2009 Thanks for the varnish suggestion. I use the cable release a lot, though, so I'm a little afraid to do that.
DerekF Posted October 21, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 21, 2009 Do you lose the exposure lock (second shutter button position) with that soft-release like you do with the Tom A. release? Does it have a tendency to unscrew itself? You don't lose the ability to use exposure lock. I do it all the time with my soft release. You just need to be more careful about how far you press down on the shutter release.

Just checked the release I have now, and I stand corrected. But one I lost, I don't think it quite worked...
stunsworth Posted October 21, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 21, 2009 I used a soft release on all my film Ms, but have abandoned using one on my M8 as I found it emphasised the 'notchiness' if the shutter button.

morffin Posted October 21, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2009 I bought one a couple of years ago at Photo Village in NY. Great little add-on to the Leica ... I can shoot about a stop slower ...It does significantly add to the number of accidental shutter trips though. I think I paid around $20 for mine. Guest mc_k Posted October 21, 2009 Share #11 Posted October 21, 2009 ...take care you turn the camera off before stowing it in a bag, or you will get a "hot M8" or a card full of blank pictures. The release makes the shutter button very sensitive.
viramati Posted October 21, 2009 Share #12 Posted October 21, 2009 I wrap a little PTFE round the thread which really helps. David Zenfolio | David Sampson Photography

The release makes the shutter button very sensitive. I do not use a softie on my M8 ( notchy..) but do use it on my film Ms. I use a rubber hair band to prevent the shutter from being depressed in my bag. Tie the hair band through the strap rug and then pull it over the softie and leave it around 'the neck' of the softie. m

Does it have a tendency to unscrew itself? I tried a small Nikon convex, matchteck cocave and convex. They all impede the exp. lock. Thanks for the tip. I no longer use them. Thanks for the tip. LeicaMSeattle Posted October 26, 2009 Share #16 Posted October 26, 2009 Earlier this year, I had the priviledge of meeting Tim Issac in person when he delivered one of his Mini Bip soft shutter releases and CSEP4 Thumbs Up devices, the Bip which I have installed with a small drop of Loctite 222 to keep it from unthreading itself. This Loctite product is for small fasteners and does not require heat or excessive torque to break its hold. LeicaMSeattle Posted October 27, 2009 Share #18 Posted October 27, 2009 Loctite solves the unthreading or loosening of the soft shutter button and has no effect on the exposure lock function which is involves the partial depression of the button without actuating the shutter,
Guest mc_k Posted October 27, 2009 Share #19 Posted October 27, 2009 ...there's no way a soft release can impede the shutter button function... The "no exposure lock" complaint is made in several other threads. Just something to be aware of, that the soft release CAN interfere with the intermediate positions, but it does not do so necessarily. I use the releases and am a little lost without them. Yes my small Nikon concave seems to be best. Is it the same for the M7? Just curious.
