Ah, I read wrong, I thought he mentioned the Cron. Yes, the special edition Elmarit is also anodized, that's right, so we are up to two. However, the Elmarit cannot really be bought. "The surface finish is applied on aluminum instead of the regular silver chrome finish on brass. Low weight 9.5 oz. I thought that the first post on silver anodization mentioned the Cron, but going back, it mentioned the Elmarit, which I had forgotten to count. Then you mentioned the Cron, and my first thought was that you pointed out the same lens, so I had to go back and re-read. The Elmarit will almost certainly only be bought as part of the safari set, and most will go to collections, so the only realistic purchase possibility is still the Cron. Anyway, so there are two now. Hopefully there will not be more. For me the attraction of chrome lenses is also strongly in the feel, not just the look, and the anodized lens have only the look, but the same feel as the black lenses. I've never had any chrome lenses (but if anyone wants to trade a chrome 21ASPH for my black one +$ let me know!) But the black paint lenses I've had certainly feel different from my black chrome lenses. I have a 90 Summicron AA and a 35 Summicron ASPH in black paint and they definitely feel more solid and well-made than my other lenses. I'm actually on my second copy of the 35/2, since I stupidly sold mine shortly before the M9 was announced. All three of the black-paint lenses I've used had super-smooth focusing, aperture rings that were perfectly tight with firm click stops, and an overall solid feeling. They're heavier to be sure, but they feel and look great. If the chrome-on-brass lenses have a similar feeling, then I'd strongly recommend them. I would imagine silver anodizing will be the way forward for Leica now whenever they choose to issue a 'chrome' version of a lens. It would be a bit weird only doing it for the 28 Summicron. I'm a big fan although, funnily enough, I can't say I like the look of it much (I only bought it because it was cheaper at the time than a run of the mill black version). I managed to ding my top plate within about an hour of owning the M9:eek: - I slung an M8 over my shoulder forgetting that I already had the M9 hanging off that shoulder! The chrome lenses, despite having a heavier outer shell made out of brass, have the very same mechanics inside (brass + aluminium) - my 2/28 (silver aluminium) doesn't behave different than any of my brass lenses - and it definitely must not behave differently. Oh how horrible - poor you - I hate that stuff euch! It's not surprising mine's brassing a bit - it's been around the block, and I always hold it in my left hand so that that corner rubs - my M8's wore there as well. To be honest I rather like it. I prefer to remove the white lettering, I used some mild solvent to remove the white paint on my M8 black chrome bodies, but I don't want to harm the remaining black paint on the M9. How did you do it? I think the black paint lenses look fine on the M9. They're a little glossier, but both of mine (35mm and 90mm) have seen little use. That will change with the full-frame M9, so I'm hoping once they wear a bit and some brass shows through they'll look good together. In any event, both were purchased for lower prices than comprable black-chrome lenses, and the feel of the lens is more important to me than the looks:D Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
