Hi all,

Would like to get your opinion about this. I already own an Elmarit-M 24mm/2.8 ASPH chrome. Was thinking if it's worthwhile to trade up for the Summilux-M 24mm/1.4 ASPH?

Usually, I wouldn't think about it and just do it, however in a different article found in this forum, seems the Elmarit-M 90/2.8 is somewhat sharper than it's 90/2.0 brother. So in that 90mm case, it's not necessarily a trade-up.

What about the 24/2.8 -> 24/1.4?

Cheers for your advice,

Sorry, I wonder why you posted this into the historical section ... :confused: ... they are both currently produced lenses, and the 1,4 is about 1 year old...

Anyway, the answer is simple : it is worth if you like a style of photographing which evidences the 2 stops more you can enjoy with the 1,4, that is to say, selective focus in wideangle takings: this can bring, expecially in interiors, very interesting images, provided that the photographer has the right ability to catch their potential value.

24 2,8 is still a superb lens, and I think that for "normal" apertures there is no appreciable advantage to use the 1,4, which is also bulkier.

Keep your Elmarit 24mm (it is a fantastic lens!) lens unless you are in desperate need for a faster lens of that focal length. Certainly, the Summilux 24mm will not be sharper than the Elmarit.

By the way, according to my own experience, the Summicron 2/90 apo asph is the sharpest 90mm lens I have ever had, and my copy is sharper than the Elmarit 2.8/90 which I also own.

Cheers,

Andy

Sorry, my bad. I thought the Digital and Film forums were for discussion on M-bodies only, and saw the word lenses in the description for this sub-forum. Thx for the feedback, sounds like optically the 24mm Elmarit-M and Summilux-M are close enough and it's merely aperture specs and my requirements (of which 1.4 would be lovely).

Thanks, and apologies about the wrong sub-forum
