jimbo035 Posted October 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The selftimer of the SL I just bought runs, but slows right down at the end of its travel and fails to fire the shutter. Mentioned during a CLA query to a UK "specialist Leica repairer" I was told this sometimes is an SL problem and may not be repairable - in which case the viable alternative would be to "lock" the lever in its upright position as a precaution against probable interlinked damage to the shutter mechanism. (Or words to that effect) As this camera is 35 years old.... I suppose its the lack of parts syndrome Nevertheless, if there are any SL users, particularly on this (eastern) side of the Atlantic that know a of a repairer who can fix it, please tell me who and where they are. (No offence to our Stateside members... but I'd rather avoid the hassle involving import/export outside the European Union)

Guest suilvenman Posted October 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2009 A similar problem occurred with my SL about two years ago. I contacted Peter Grisaffi at CRR Luton (01582 570395) and sent the camera to him. On inspection, it was discovered that the teeth of the main gear had stripped. I was offered the choice of a new (£68) or near new S/H self-timer (£34) + handling time. Along with the repair, I decided to get a full service. I can thoroughly recommend Peter Grisaffi's work. ejd Posted October 25, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND CRR Luton -- Peter Grisaffi -- I second the comments above. Excellent. He did extensive repairs on an SL2 for me -- new self-timer (the old one had been totally destroyed), new circuit board in the meter electronics, recalibration of meter for 1.5 volt battery, complete service, etc -- John
jimbo035 Posted October 25, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted October 25, 2009 I phoned Peter Grisaffi a few days ago, and so will send it to him for a CLA, fixing the self-timer, and recalibrating the meter - once the current dispute between the postal workers & their managment is resolved, and backlog of piled-up mail cleared. (I don't really want to be without it for more than a 14 day "turn-around" intimated by Peter). Meanwhile at his suggestion I am putting a film through the camera to see whether it jams; so far so good up to 29 out of 36 frames . ps Already my D-Lux 4 has lost some of its appeal :-)
