papimuzo Posted October 28, 2009 Share #21 Â Posted October 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks UliWer for all these measurements, which triggered me to test myself , in order to precise IF I could at the end collapse my recent (# nbr 1930xxx) Elmar 50-2.8 6bits coded. Â Regarding the deep it is safe. Then, I made a dummy tube (cardboard) of 30.05 mm. and introduced it into the lens throat of the M8. Â I saw that it can be introduced BUT there is not any marging at all. Â So, my conclusion: it is rather unsafe to collapse the recent Elmars into a M8, even if it is safe for the shutter. Â I know, it is only a comfirmation of what is mentionned in the manual, but I'm please to have verified without risk by myself. Â BTW: Is there some M9 owners having had tested Elmars collapsed into there beloved toy?

UliWer Posted October 28, 2009 Share #23 Â Posted October 28, 2009 I often had collapsed 50-mm lenses on the M8, though I would always recommend to stay safe and use them uncollapsed. In any case, one should not have them collapsed when mounting them, for the tight margin at the sides of the of the lens throat may cause collisions. Mounting and unmounting them uncollapsed will avoid most of the risks.
