What Do I Have?

According to Scripture, this should indeed be a IIIf 'Black Dial' from 1951-52 (but I have had surprises). Posting a picture or two of your gear would be informative. The camera itself, if in decent shape, and maybe after a CLA, will be good for as long as they continue to make 35mm film.

The 'quality' of the lenses will depend on what state they are in. But basically, the Summarit is a nice old picture-taker, though a bit soft and flarey wide open. It should have a big boxy shade, called the XOONS. Use it religiously. The Summaron would still be rated a good 35mm lens, though it is slow, of course. The Elmar is an old warhorse, design from 1932, but can be acceptable (it hung on, in different mounts, until 1960). The finder I cannot identify from the number. It does not look like a finder code, and Leitz did not abandon their alphabetic product codes for numbers until around 1960. Is the thing marked 'Leitz'? Again, pics would be welcome.

If there are other accessories lying around (hoods, filters, etc.) do take care of them. Their presence can increase value -- including use value, as with the XOONS!

Lars has said almost all... :)... I add that your IIIf belongs to a significant batch of 30.000 bodies (580.001 - 610.000) : interesting, the next small batch of IIIfs (610.001 -611.000) was the first "Made in Canada".

The finder : I bet it's a multi-focal VIOOH (3,5 to 13,5 cm)... I seem to remember it's the only that can have a serial number, and 52131 sounds like this.

Post pics... I'm curios to see if I'm right... ;)
