This episode, Chris Niccolls braves the cruel Canadian winter to look at the new Leica M Type 240 digital rangefinder. This is Leica's first M rangefinder with Live View and video capture. Will these new additions help create the greatest M of all, or take away some of what made rangefinder photography so appealing?

The BP has got his hands on a Leica M 240, which means Kai gets to fiddle about it first and do a little review on it. The Typ 240 is taken out on the streets of Central, HK for a spot of street photography with a tasty Noctilux 50mm f/0.95

I can't believe it, I finally have the latest Leica M Monochrom in my hand, the Typ 246. I remember being so excited when I had the original M Monochrom to review, and I had the same feeling once again. There's something about shooting a camera with so many limits (manual focus, rangefinder viewfinder, monochromatic images, etc.) and yet gives you so much creative freedom. Check out my full review with tons of sample images. Thanks for your support by liking and subscribing. As my channel grows your support becomes more important to me so I do appreciate all your kind words and support.

My 1st quick look and thoughts on the new Leica Monochrom Typ 246. This time Leica is using the new M 240 body and features so we get all the upgrades. which are FANTASTIC. To me, this easily surpasses the previous MM in all areas from body, features, IQ and more.

Wow. I can not believe it is March 2013 and I am sitting here at my big white Ikea desk writing about the new digital Leica M! No, NOT the M10 but the M Typ 240. Yes, Leica decided to be clever and call their new 24 Megapixel monster M, simply “M” with a number attached at the end to distinguish models.

Camera reviews are rarely occasions for existential reflection. We expect to read about what the camera can do. But the Leica M (also known as the Typ 240) elicits deeper questions: How versatile should a camera try to be? How far from the mainstream dare it stray? What sort of pictures do we want to take with it? How much should it cost? Soon we are in really deep water: What sort of people are we? Why would we (or anyone) buy an M?

Previously in October 2012, I had a chance to handle the M Typ 240 (I’m going to call it the M 240 from hereon in) back at the Kuala Lumpur launch event, and produce a quick preview (that can be found here). At that point, the camera was a very early functioning prototype – yet the improvement over the M9 was clear.

There are a lot of online Leica M (Typ 240) camera reviews, considering it was announced at Photokina 2012, and started shipping at the end of February 2013. Therefore I’m a bit late to the game, but hopefully my impressions can provide value to those still undecided about the new M. I should also note that my intention is not to touch on every feature of the camera, rather, to discuss how I’m using it and how that does, or does not, suit my needs.
