Thank You Gentlemen!

No joke! This really happened on their wedding night/reception.

From what I gathered, the owner of the gallery wanted to end the reception early as she believed it was getting unruly... The contract was supposedly open ended, but she felt threatened and decided to call the cops to end the party around 11:00 p.m.

The cops came and immediately arrested the groom's father, although no one really knows why. Then all hell broke loose with the crowd, starting with the older adults screaming obscenities to the officers, which was followed by the younger guests getting heated much the same.

When I went back inside to look for my wife, the cops were already getting at the groom. You can imagine everyone getting very upset and getting in front of the officers, yadda yadda, and things only got worse. By now, the officers must have felt very threatened.

As they are trying to arrest the groom, people are getting in the way, and the groom starts resisting. Then the bride clamps herself around him yelling "you are not taking him!"

In the process of pulling them apart everyone gets even more heated! Then the tasers come out and they had a field day with those. They tasered them to the floor, and tasered them a few more times on the floor to keep them from getting up then backed away. I was really overwhelmed to the point that I thought gunshots were going to go off!

The last frame is them on the floor. Defeated, crying, and consoling each other.

The whole thing was really unnecessary and should have been handled in a completely different manner. The whole police force from this tiny touristy town was there. Seems they acted with force way too quickly and for no apparent reason (for me at least ). No excuses for the 100 guests either, because some of them really acted moronically. There should have been someone there to handle these situations, the bride and groom should not have been involved at all. Instead, they spend their first night as husband and wife in a jail cell.

I still feel that they treated them like crooks from the get go. They are a very nice couple, and not criminals. Now she has a misdemeanor, and he has a felony waiting to get sentenced. Neither of them had a criminal background before this incident.

Here is a link to the ceremony I posted recently http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/59608-husband-wife.html

Thanks,

Amado

American cops may have a few bad apples, but what organization doesn't...

Most that I meet are rather nice, respectful, and approachable.

Thank you Juergen and Enrico for your time!

Here is what the caterer said, Apparently these cops have caused ruckus before!?

B A N C O: August 2008

at least THEY ARE NOT JUST AFTER PHOTOGRAPHERS! ;)

I hardly get to read something good about american cops - if ever. It's easy to get out tasers and use them. Glad something like that seems unlikely to happen at a wedding here in Germany. You can still talk to cops.

Mmmh. My only encounter with police overseas was when my rental car was converted from a saloon to a hatchback by another car. The police called the rental car company for a replacement car and even took me to a coffee shop to bridge the waiting time.

Personally I had good and poor experiences with German police. Difficult people are spread evenly over mankind and also over professions...

Amado,

exceptional story telling with your camera. Well chosen vantage points and first class camera craft.

Must have been fabulous to be the man on the spot !! "Where is this going to end?".

Disappointed that John Wayne didn't turn up ? Ha.

Stefan--- Many thanks to you.

Rolo--- No heroes that night, and yes, it was pretty exhilarating. Thank You!

bscott--- Thank you.

I've photographed police wo&men before. Maybe never in such a dim moment, but they've all been ok with it. As far as releases go, I don't know too much about that. I certainly wasn't going to ask them permission right there.:D

Thanks Again!

I too find police officers to be fairly representative of the population at large. However, when I came home on leave from the Air Force after being away at university and the military I was stunned to see that just as with Alex's "droogies" near the end of the book A Clockwork Orange a number of my home town's newer police officers were the same people from my high school who were always in trouble. That was unsettling.
