Well, we just call it HB, short for HeartBeat. After all, the first thing we were able to see on ultrasound was our baby's heartbeat! This book features a collection of my photographs taken in Paris, the first weekend away since HeartBeat appeared. In my small bag: change of underwear, a toothbrush, a T-shirt... and of course my Leica M9 with the Summilux 50mm and 35mm f1.4 lenses. Check it out here, any comments welcome! I traveled to Paris a few days after I learned that I would become a father, hence a different title rather than simply call it 'Paris', or so. The rest is really just a plain old photography book. Never claimed this to be particularly special. And yes, I wanted to get the odd tourist shot as well, as I have not been back to Paris in almost a decade. On some, I tried to walk a little bit of a different line, but mostly, agreed, nothing spectacular. As to the orientation, I consciously tried to set it apart. Used the small 'Notebook' format for the book and figured it was not supposed to look like all others. Jury is out as to whether that was a good decision (my girlfriend actually doesn't really like it either). Try new things, learn by doing I guess. Mark I've designed several books of art and photography and I usually intend the horizontal pictures to be spread on double page. So, when you design a book such is yours, you have to consider not having the left page for text only but using the text as a simple element of the double page you can move where it stand best. This is because I think that many people would be annoyed to have to turn the book upside down to look at a picture. Besides, double page enhance a lot the horizontal picture. If you allow me, I would suggest you to look at the photographic books designed by Alexey Brodovitch in the fifties, to me still the best books for photography.
