richam Posted September 8, 2010 Share #2  Posted September 8, 2010  I name the entry - The burst of dawn  The game's afoot!  We here in Greece are a bit lazy in the summer. Is it OK if we capture sunsets and flip them horizontally before posting?

phancj Posted September 8, 2010 Author Share #5 Â Posted September 8, 2010 I am also hoping we can all chip in to decide on cut-off date, voting rules, etc, etc, nothing formal but at least basic framework.
jmteno76 Posted September 8, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted September 8, 2010 One of my favorite shots from Scotland - Traveling with the X1 - the only camera that I used on a 10 day vacation. Â Â
ravinj Posted September 9, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted September 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gentlemen: Should we decide on the theme for the first challenge? Otherwise, it would be hard to judge pictures of birds (a favorite topic of X1 owners ) with that of green fields. Â Thoughts?
phancj Posted September 9, 2010 Author Share #8  Posted September 9, 2010 Guys! Guys!  Due to too many negativity towards the X1 and in some instances, the way we choose to take photographs with our X1, I have developed this instinctive defense mechanism so much so the slightest unwarranted negativity will automatically solicit my wrath. I do not think I am alone.  I have decided to take a step back and realize that to get our camera, photos and contest taken seriously, we need to make this contest a little more formal and well-orchestrated so the larger Leica or even the main photographic community can view us and this camera as a formidable force. I have since buried the hatchet (haha) and Bill, being the real gentleman that he is (I just found out) has graciously given us some pointers to get started, as below (Bill, I know this is private message but I have taken the liberty to post this and I am sure you wont mind), I found them to be extremely helpful as a framework for us to get started. So guys please digest this and give us your thoughts:  Posted verbatim below:  PM from Bill to CJ below:  Right, gentlemen.  Here is how you do it.  Have a look at one of the D-Lux 4 challenges; you basically need to follow the same routine. This is a very good example: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/power/  Rules: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-...nge-rules.html - just change "D-Lux 4" to "X1"  Timing: I suggest that you give 2 weeks notice, 1 week shooting time, 1 week to post and 1 week to vote.  Process: Send a PM to Andreas (ADMIN) He will set up the necessary sub-forum. He can also publicise the competition in the Forum Newsletter. Publicise it yourself by posting in the X1 and other Fora; I suggest at least the Digital, and Customer. If you ask a Mod nicely they can make your thread a "sticky". The first post notifies the dates, and the rules. In your X1 Challenge sub-forum, you then need to set up threads for a) posting of images, and voting.  Scoring: email me and I will send you a scoresheet in Excel that makes keeping track very simple. My email is [...]  Theme: Pick a good one; some of the best, for the Barnack and the D-Lux 4 Challenges have been the abstract ones, that encourage people to think.  Personally I would like to suggest as a theme "HARMONY"  That's it. It's not hard. Have a look at the links I have provided and I will answer any questions. When you are good to go, just let me know, or PM Andreas directly.  Good luck.  Best regards,  Bill __________________ Bill Palmer Gentleman Amateur & Leica Ambassador    So guys, please STOP POSTING PHOTOS HERE but rather henceforth this thread can be used as a organizational thread for the above contest.  It is my aim to make this the best ever informal contest not just for the X1 or Leica but the larger photographic community as a whole.  My thanks to all of you and sincerely wishing all of you can chip in to contribute. And yes, thank you again Bill.  And thank you for the photos posted here, I thank you for your support, but we got to make this contest better, much better....  :)CJ
