Wonderful review Valentin, thank you very much! And very honest, because what you do not mention is just as relevant as what is written in your review. Not one word about speed (shutter lag, shot to shot RAW flash off etc.).

One other question, since you tested the X1: is there a ring around the lens base at all, that can be taken off -thread or bayonet- to be replaced by a lenshood, like the D-lux4 or Ricohs?

Yep I did read it so can the bullshit Edi ...... If you accept with what/how etc was written so be it, so don't cast dispersions.............. I could call you a pretentious git but I cannot confirm if you are one so I will not call you a pretentious git.

You are the one who accussed me of not reading the article something that wasn't true so why did you lie?

I never called you a pretentious git, I did say I could, maybe you have a reading problem, or you just like restructuring sentences to suit your own anger............... I really don't care who you put on your ignore list. Then again as you have lied already this ignore list bizzo could be another lie:p......... maybe one of your mates will tell you what transpired

OKOKOK - everybody can calm down again - OK?

Thanks

Andreas

Andreas why don't you give everyone a break and get rid of stnami (Imants).

He is always starting something then blaming the other person. Has he ever posted anything of actual value to the forum or any member of the forum?

He is childish, inconsiderate and a total bore. Of course that is just my opinion.

Oh and I don't care for his photography or what he might think is Art. Again that is my opinion.

Don't worry I have put him on my ignore list and never respond directly to him.

Shoots I never accused anyone of not reading the article, which is how it started................ evidently you read what I wrote but not what the other person wrote . Maybe you should keep your own personal vendettas to yourself.

It is easy to press the ignore button regarding someone, who is asking for it constantly.

Why interfere with people, who do a great job, as the the admins, but if they decide to, only newcomers would notice it.

It is much more frustrating to notice that a camera, that is exactelly what many were asking for and is an absolute jewel, will eventually reach the market with major flaws. Asking the almost triple price (yes! because the other one sells out already) of a very good camera that is slow unfortunatelly, leady to 2-5 posts per day, not counting infighting, polite salutes and posts not directly related to the X1. To guess expected sales figures is something for the marketing people and I'm not a specialist.

I'd rather wait for six months and have an X1

-with a faster buffer,

-the RAW only option and the dark screen mode, too (no review= no chimping) and a

-simple thread at the lens base, that takes a D-Lux 4 like tube=lensshade,

so that the wonderful optic is a lot less vulnerable when in working position. Ixus buyers and Leica buyers differ, but of cause nobody would be forced to put on a lens shade.

To expect significant sales without offering the black body option, while seing how micro 4/3 buyers paciently wait for the GF1 is a decision I could live with.

We don't know the production camera buffer speed.

And don't forget Kelvin settings -- any and all of which can be fixed with firmware for the production camera

Filters and hoods don't require threads on the camera. Think outside the box.

Don't understand this last one. The primary market for this camera likely cares very little for all black.

Either one knows it all (including what the primary market cares for) or not.

As I said, I'm not a specialist and only know what I would buy.

With slow RAW

(as was described by a forum member, who tested the X1 in the Far East during a presentation)

and a sub-M shutter lag

it could turn out to be futile to diffentiate between primary, secondary and if there is such a thing, tertiary markets.

Unlike a protection for an extending lens, the color is no central issue for me.

As was repeatedly stated: This forum member did not test an X1. He briefly played around with a pre-production model. And I seem to remember he was told that the final product would behave differently. I don't see the point of complaining about non-existing cameras ad nauseam. You certainly don't have to buy it if you don't like the color or if you think something's missing, but you shouldn't try to bad-mouth it based on unsubstantiated claims.

Oh. I see now. This guy in the Far East managed to get his hands on the only production version of the X1 in the known universe months before the first production cameras are available.

Therefore, we know exactly how the X1 will behave even before the lot of production cameras (from which this sample was taken) was actually manufactured.

So is this (a) time travel or (B) something from a parallel (or near parallel) universe?

It is so much easier to review cameras and form opinions when you are not restricted by physics, that pesky time-space continuum thingy, or the chronosynclastic infundibulum. :D

I, on the other hand, am stuck in this galaxy (actually, this planet) and this dimension...And will have to wait for the arrival of actual production models before forming an opinion first hand, or from the efforts of mere mortal reviewers similarly restricted. Sigh.

Your great sense of humour is very much apreciated!

Diferent people react differently when waiting for their objects of desire.

I'm sure everything will be ju-ust fine and the most beautiful camera of this millenium will be under each one's Christmas tree.

Also under habedi's.

Take it easy, habedi and be !

I liked it coronita, thanks a lot!

what do you think about the image quality though?

the two sample pics you posted didn't look too good to me....?

I have never owned a leica before so the X1 fits my budget, I love how when you cut it on it shows the Leica logo on the display (assuming it does this from the pic)

I've actually never even touched a Leica...

thanks again!
