Steffen.K.Larsen Posted March 24, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted March 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, Â Currently I have the neckstrap mounted to one side of the X1, works better for me than the "standard" way. (thanks to someone in this forum for the suggestion!) Â I'm looking for a different option, though. The official Leica handstrap seems too long to me. Â I saw the Sling on www.leicagoodies.com, and it looks interesting. However, has anyone here tried it on an X1? Or maybe something homemade, tailored to the X1? Â Other suggestions for alternative straps / thingies are welcome!
Advertisement Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hi Steffen.K.Larsen, Take a look here A finger / handstrap like the Sling on the X1?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Lightwrangler Posted March 25, 2011 Share #2  Posted March 25, 2011 I just cut up some no-name camera-neckstrap, punched it with a hole puncher, burned the threads with a lighter and fixed the whole thing to my X1 using a keyring. Looks like "The Sling" and just cost me, äh… nothing!  I works 100% and does not look as shabby as it sounds. Will provide a picture tomorrow if wished.  Just go for it.  Mike

Lightwrangler Posted March 25, 2011 Share #4  Posted March 25, 2011 And another version i build for use with three fingers. I use an enhanced version (with a double-headed screw holding the strap, not a keyring) of this on my M8, the 8-shaped fingerstrap sits on my X1 and fits me perfectly.  Mike Welcome, dear visitor! elgenper Posted March 25, 2011 Share #5  Posted March 25, 2011 Hello all, Currently I have the neckstrap mounted to one side of the X1, works better for me than the "standard" way. (thanks to someone in this forum for the suggestion!)  I'm looking for a different option, though. The official Leica handstrap seems too long to me.  I saw the Sling on www.leicagoodies.com, and it looks interesting. However, has anyone here tried it on an X1? Or maybe something homemade, tailored to the X1?  Other suggestions for alternative straps / thingies are welcome!  FWIW, I used a Sling on my Digilux 2 for years, and liked it a lot. The point is, the camera doesn´t ´dangle´ from it; it is controlled by your ring and index finger in such a way that you don´t even have to grab the camera; it hangs securely from your relaxed hand.  Just grab it instantly and raise it to your eye for a shot, then let your arm fall again, and the camera is almost invisible. Or just take it off your fingers and put it in a bag: no long strap that could hang outside the bag and get snagged.  This functionality depends on the correct length of the two loops, of course. When ordering, you have to measure your fingers and then you get a ´tailor-made´ Sling. Of course you can make one yourself, but be prepared to experiment before getting the correct length.  After all this praise, I have to admit I haven´t had the nerve to use it on my M9... It is so much heavier than the Digilux 2 (and so much more expensive) that I chickened out.  Another thing is that the keyring that holds the Sling in place can wear rather heavily on the strap eyelet of the camera body. Lightwrangler Posted March 25, 2011 Share #7  Posted March 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) i am interested in seeing what it looks like- can you post a link to a pic? thanx paul  Ok, sorry for the ugly pix. I just took them in a rush in front of the mirror in horrible light.  Picture 3 would be the usual holding for shooting position. The other ones are just to illustrate how one can hold the camera and how the finger-strap looks like. It is also possible to only use it with one finger (forefinger) in the upper loop. The finger-string just makes holding the X1 more comfortable and adds that extra feel of security that i needed when swinging around the rather expensive machine. Welcome, dear visitor! Steffen.K.Larsen Posted March 25, 2011 Author Share #9 Â Posted March 25, 2011 Thanks a lot Corona! That looks great, and just what I'm out for. Â I think I'll take a shot at it, it seems like such a good fit. Thanks again, perfect reply.
Broke Posted March 26, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted March 26, 2011 My 2 cents -- I have a sling and an X1... I don't find it that comfortable on the X1, though it is very comfortable on M's. This is because of the shallow top plate of the X1. If you put your middle and ring fingers in the loops, it feels awkward to reach the shutter with your pointer. I find it somewhat better to put your pointer and middle fingers in the loops. It is very low profle, however, which is nice. Hope that helps. Cheers, Jim
