purduealum91 Posted March 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone, My X1 should be arriving tomorrow. I am stoked. I am currently using an Olympus E-P2. I love that camera. Anyways, seeing how much the X1 is, what is the best bang-for-buck viewfinder for it? Thanks! Advertisement Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hi purduealum91, Take a look here Recommended 35mm finder for X1?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
larbel Posted March 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2010 I read on another forum someone is using the Olympus 17mm VF-1 on the X1 with great result. 34mm vs 36mm isn't that big of a difference and at 1/3 of the cost of the X1 finder, I guess it's pretty good deal. But I already paid for the X1 finder otherwise, I might want to go that route too.

Like you, I love using the Pen, but it's been a little lonely sitting on the shelf. I like the idea of using the E-P1 VF. I'm going to look into that a little further. It can't find the X1 VF in stock anywhere.

cfc247 Posted March 3, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm using the VC35mm metal finder as well. Its a good fit and in terms of size looks much more balanced on the X1 than the Leica, which IMO is a bit too large for the body. Another accessory I would recommend is the brass soft release you see in the photo. They can be found on ebay for about $30. Welcome, dear visitor! el.nino Posted March 3, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 3, 2010 I wrote this in another post about the X1-Finder: "I have some Voigtländer viewfinders and this is not the case with them (not even with the optical viewfinder for the olympus pen). It is really hard to explain. With the X1-viewfinder there seems to be just one point (exactly the middle) where you can look through and it doesn't get fuzzy. as soon as you move your eye around (e.g. to explore a corner) or don't have your eye aligned EXACTLY (!!!!!) on the optical axis it gets weird and sometimes you even see the framelines doubled. it's really annoying as it kinda "hurts" your eye because its always changing from clear and sharp to "fuzzy". maybe someone reading this and having the X1-viewfinder can confirm (or deny - than it just might have been a bad copy) my observations." cfc247 Posted March 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 3, 2010 Question: Is there any benefit using soft release button on non-mechanical shutter? I guess it will depend on the hand size of the user, but I find that I have to reach down a bit more with my shooting finger without it. That bend of my index finger sometimes causes camera shake. It helps keep the camera steady. I have used it on the dlux4 with great results as well.
pappde Posted March 3, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 3, 2010 I use the CV 28-35 Mini finder. It is a great small finder and has a rubber ring at the eye end, to prevent your glasses to be scratched, if you wear one.
bap Posted March 3, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 3, 2010 how does one get the shutter release button that came with the x1 off and has anyone used a softie with the x1 or the dlux and if so is it the softie or the mini softie

For everyone else, the soft release comes with a 3m tape preinstalled and holds nicely over the factory shutter button. Hence, you can install it on pretty much any p&s camera with a leaf shutter, including the dlux4.
grober Posted March 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 3, 2010 I use the CV 28-35 Mini finder. It is a great small finder . . . I agree that the CV mini-finder is great. But in the end I elected to belly up to the bar and order the Leica 36mm finder specified by Leica for the X1. In for a penny; in for a pound. My camera arrives tomorrow; who knows when my backordered Leica finder will show up. -g
damnsharp Posted March 4, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 4, 2010 I got finally my Voightlander 35mm viewfinder but I cannot place it on the X1. Maybe I have to push hard but I don't dare. Will contact CameraQuest about it. When anyone has a solution let's hear it please.
earleygallery Posted March 4, 2010 Share #16 Posted March 4, 2010 Leica hotshoes are often very tight fitting - try a tiny dab of oil of some sort on the finder shoe edges perhaps.

I would have imagined that it's the universal hotshoe size and would have just slid into place, but I understand not wanting to force the issue. Keep us posted. Hi Steve, tried it again and now it fit but I had to push in my opinion too hard. Maybe it gets a little looser. Also to get it of is difficult. seattlesteve Posted March 4, 2010 Share #19 Posted March 4, 2010 That's good news. I'm glad it does fit and although it may be a little tight, you can rest assured that it won't easily be bumped or knocked out. Can you show us what it looks like? Did you get the silver or black one?
jpmac55 Posted March 4, 2010 Share #20 Posted March 4, 2010 I use the CV 28-35 Mini finder. It is a great small finder and has a rubber ring at the eye end, to prevent your glasses to be scratched, if you wear one. I own this viewfinder as well. There is one currently for sale in Rangefinder's classifieds.
