Davidarosenzweig Posted February 19, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 19, 2011 The new firmware loaded fine on the 35mm, 70mm and 180mm lenses but failed on the 120mm lense.....(which now does not auto focus)...has anyone else had this problem?
albertknappmd Posted February 19, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2011 It seems to me that you have to download the upgrade each time for each lens. Am I correct in this regard? Albert:confused::confused:
kidigital Posted February 19, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 19, 2011 Marc, It would be interesting to know what was in the firmware ... I'm hopeful that the tweaks will be beneficial (even faster focus, less hunting or whatever) ... after all, some of us have been unsuspecting Leica guinea pigs in the past. Albert, The camera should recognize which lens is on the camera automatically. I simply loaded the card with the the lens firmware into the camera with the 180 on the camera and followed the instructions. After the firmware was installed, I then shut the camera off and removed the 180 (and kept the card in the camera). I switched lenses to the 70, pushed the AE/AF button while turning the camera on, and the camera recognized that the 70 was there and loaded the correct firmware. So worst case - you wait 48 hours for an upgrade the benefits of which are unclear

Constable Posted February 21, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2011 Dear all, Just to let anyone who is worried about the update, it worked for all my lenses just like it said on the wrapping! I can't see or feel any obvious change in behaviour, though. Ed

mwilliamsphotography Posted February 24, 2011 Share #13 Posted February 24, 2011 There is a brave man, loading new firmware the day it arrives before a shoot :-) Kevin. Kevin, I have a full Sony A900 back-up system in the bag and with me at all times for stuff like this. If more is actually needed, I bring the Hasselblad MFD. The S2 worked flawlessly ... under a great deal of pressure I might add. It held up better than I did ... LOL! -Marc
tom0511 Posted February 24, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 24, 2011 Does anyone feel any improvement. I found out that my 35 and 70 had allready the new firmware - maybe one reason of my positive experience with the AF? So far I am still pretty happy with the S2-AF accurancy. i hope the 120 I will receive will work as good.
Constable Posted February 27, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 27, 2011 Has anyone else had a problem with the 180 after the last lens firmware was installed. I seem to be seeing an fairly consistent 1 - 1.5 EV overexposure Cheers Ed

I seem to be seeing an fairly consistent 1 - 1.5 EV overexposure Cheers Ed You may have the sticking aperture problem . Diglloyd had this on his 180 and I ve had it on the 35 . Check to see if the lens is stopping down to the shooting aperture.
Constable Posted March 28, 2011 Share #17 Posted March 28, 2011 Roger I think you are probably right. Is there a fix for this or is it a trip to Solms? Ed
Constable Posted April 17, 2011 Share #18 Posted April 17, 2011 Update on 180 problem. Seems to have been related to the lens contacts. Cleaned with eraser, IPA followed by compressed air and lens tissue and it is fine.
Dougg Posted April 17, 2011 Share #19 Posted April 17, 2011 Good! The fix was inexpensive, quick, convenient... and effective. Something to keep in mind if I encounter that; thanks!

And unfortunately not long-lived. The 180 has gone back to its parents at Solms for a little lesson to fix its delinquency. Will update when I have any feedback from Solms Ed
