viramati Posted July 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Disaster has struck. Dropped m9 and am going on holiday on Monday. Seems to focus properly except for the patch has gone massively out vertically. Is this something that can be adjusted without enormous problems? I am in fact going to Germany and was going to go to visit solms so maybe I should leave it to them. Help
Advertisement Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hi viramati, Take a look here Patch alignment. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chrism Posted July 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2010 As long as it focuses OK you won't do any harm by using it, and visiting Solms will be the quickest way to fix it (and it gives you the perfect excuse to do so!) Vertical alignment can be corrected in a few minutes by someone who knows how (don't try this one yourself...) Chris
tobey bilek Posted July 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2010 Vertical requires a special tool and removal/replace of the red dot. The RF will work correctly if vertical is off, but since the camera was dropped causing this problem, I would check the horizontal . The two calibration points are infinity and one meter from the sensor. Your 50 mm lens is calibrated for 1 meter.
jaapv Posted July 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2010 Visit Solms anyway. If the camera was dropped hard enough to shift the vertical adjustment the sensor alignment needs to be checked. Book a factory tour, drop the camera off at Customer Service (15 minutes down the road) before you visit the factory
rob_x2004 Posted July 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2010 Out of interest, the drop and the sudden vertical alignment question raises its head pretty regualarly, what guarantee do you have that the drop didint screw the patch alignment up in the horizontal plane. I reckon there are number of "oh I fixed it wth an allen key" users that havent a clue that their focusing is just off the planet. Its a serious question. I found a hercules flying overhead that had two tail panes at infinity. Not a drop but solms service bayonet work. Same problem though.

Help ........ nah post it to them from the local post office or better still give it to a total stranger to deliver the camera on your behalf. Depends which is quicker ai? jaapv Posted July 1, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 1, 2010 Better to do so yourself - if it is just the RF adjustment it will be fixed while you wait.
viramati Posted July 1, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted July 1, 2010 thanks for the replies.this happened today when I was out (never dropped a camera before) and seeing it has been back to SOLMS 3 times and I am leaving on holiday on Monday Iwas somewhat frustrated (mostly with myself) have now got home and apart from the RF it isn't focusing at infinity. Anyway I have already spoken to SOLMS and I will now be passing there way. So out comes the 8.2 and the nikon and I had hoped to travel light
rob_x2004 Posted July 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted July 1, 2010 Well, sell the nikon buy a lens to close the 1.3 gap and just take the 8.2. Why has the nine been three times to solms? And yep...adjust the vertical misalignment. TRUST ME...the horizontal hasnt moved at all. Ive got a bridge for sale too. PM me now before you miss out. jaapv Posted July 1, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 1, 2010 I agree with Rob. Why take the Nikon? There is nothing wrong with using an 8.2 and there is a real possibility that Leica will have your 9 done whilst you wait.
viramati Posted July 1, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted July 1, 2010 Thanks jaapv. I know what you mean but without the M9 I might take the d700 just with the zeiss planar 50 which is one hell of a lens and great for macro also I get the better high iso. hopefully (wife permitting) we will get to Solms fairly early on in the trip. On the other hand the m8.2 and the 28 cron ASPH is on of my all time favourite combinations, the micro detail that you get from this combo is something to die for
