Advertisement Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Hi andreas_thomsen, Take a look here Adobe Lens Profile Creator. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
erlingmm Posted May 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 4, 2010 Very interesting. Can we expect these profiles to be published/exchanged for each lens type? It should not be necessary for each individual user to go through this procedure for each lens. Or are they supposed to correct also for individual variations between lens copies? sandymc Posted May 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 4, 2010 Thanks for that Andreas. The bad news for M8/M9 users is on page 9 of the Adobe Camera Model technical report: "As part of the vignette model calibration process, u ,v , f , f ,α ,α ,α are the set of model parameters that need to be estimated. Note that these model parameters are identical for all color channels." In other words, the Adobe lens correction system does not have the capability to correct for the M8/M9's color dependent vignetting aka red corners or red edges. So CornerFix won't become obsolete anytime soon Sandy, maybe you want to share your thoughts on the ALPC User Forum at Adobe Labs ... the Adobe engineers do listen to users. Well, what I was hoping for was that CornerFix could change into something that just analyzed reference images, and then generated Adobe lens profiles, rather than CornerFix lens profiles - it would make everyone's workflow so much easier. The Adobe Camera Raw engineering team have heard from me on this, both publicly and privately - in fact there have been interchanges of information between us as regards vignetting, as well as other matters. So it's disappointing, but there you go - the economic reality is that the Leica market is not big, so I guess this issue simply didn't get high enough on the priority list. I think it is only a matter of time. Color casts in the corners and edges are a fact of life, not only with the M8 and M9, but in technical cameras with digital backs that Phase One's Capture One supports, in mirrorless m43 (micro-four/thirds) cameras that are becoming increasingly popular because they take all sorts of lenses. Even the venerable Hasselblad Superwide (a 90 degree FOV and an almost symmetric lens) is listed by its maker as not recommended for use with a digital back, there are those who have tried it, and they report an Italian Flag problem. scott
