jsjxyz Posted February 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Before owning a Leica in 1998, my camera is Nikon F3, and my daily lens is my Nikkor 85 f/2.0. Although I also own Nikkor 85mm 1.4 That's why my first choice of lens with my M6 is of course naturally the 75 Summilux. But with m8, it becomes too narrow, and too heavy to use. The sensitive of digital sensor also requiring us to focus more precisely. Then I need to adjust the 75mm to Solm and coding it to 6 bit at the same time. Still I used this lens less and less. And when Leica make 75 cron AA, I plan to let my 75 lux go and plan to get the 75 cron instead. LUGers form mail list persuade me using the 75 lux more with the M9, and after extensively use this lens again for the past 3 weeks, I would say it is like falling in love again (although I still want to get the 75 cron hehe). k_g_wolf ✝ Posted February 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2010 Great photos, thx for sharing ! You seem to enjoy this camera-lens-combo a lot, as you prove with these results. I like the rendering of the background in no. 1, phantastic. Best GEORG
Jager Posted February 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2010 Many excellent images in that gallery, Jerry. The 75 obviously agrees with you. It's reputedly a tough lens to master, given its extraordinarily thin depth of focus wide-open, but the results speak for themselves when it's done right. A special lens, for sure. I remember some years ago over on photo.net when a bunch of members took up a collection to buy a copy for Mike Dixon, a Tennessean with a bent towards street photography, late-night bars, and beautiful young women. Keep sharing those 75 Lux shots...
crafter Posted February 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2010 Jerry, Beautiful Images You have mastered this difficult lens. I find myself using my 50MM much much more on the M9. Al
jsjxyz Posted February 20, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 20, 2010 Thanks George, Jeff and Al, It is more difficult than using 50 Noct 1.0, which I am so comfort in using that with my m9. JSJ
fjmcsu Posted February 20, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 20, 2010 OOh Boy; makes me sad to see;I had my 75 lux stolen from my house during a tech repair job on our cable system. My equipment was next to the area where the tech was working most the day & being trustful , I didn't stay in the room while he worked. The day following, I went to get the lens from my bag & only the case was present opened & empty!. Glad to see you are enjoying the lens again. Cherish It!! chris_tribble Posted February 20, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 20, 2010 Glad you're enjoying it - oddly it's the lens that went when I switched to all M9. I find the 50 - 75 step didn't work for me and I've fallen in love with the 90 cron asph ...
Alnitak Posted February 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 20, 2010 This is one of my favorite lenses on the M9. In fact, if I had just three lenses, it would be the 24 'lux, 50 'lux and 75 'lux. I love the isolation I can get: And it's superb for portraits: And of course, low-light shooting: Jeff
jsjxyz Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted February 21, 2010 @ Francis, sooo sad to hear lost this gem... @ Bill I remember saw that picture, I was so happy to see the full potential of the lens in M9. @ Chris, is it because of the size and its heaviness? @ Jeff you put all the context in one sentence, which I couldn't agree more: "I love the isolation I can get"

yanidel Posted February 21, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 21, 2010 I own one but don't use it much as the 60mm Hexanon 1.2 is my go to long lens. I did some tests shots side to side and the look wide open and DOF are about the same. The 75mm Lux bokeh is a bit smoother and colors are a bit colder, but the 60mm is just so much more convenient to carry around. I can't decide myself to sell it though, such an amazing piece of glass.

thompsonkirk Posted February 22, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 22, 2010 Jerry, Andy, & others, My hat's off & I'm bowing to those of you who can focus this lens wide open. I've never liked long lenses but occasionally used a 50 Summilux on M8, enjoying the 67mm (equiv) focal length. So I thought I might like 75 on M9. I borrowed a friend's 75 Lux to see how well I could use it for low-light work, but my 'keeper' rate was too low, even with a Megaperls 1.35 magnifier. Thinking my senior-citizen eyes could never focus well in the f1.4 to F2 range, I've acquired a Summicron instead. But it's nice to see you succeed at something I can't do! jsjxyz Posted February 22, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted February 22, 2010 Chriss!!! Stop mentioning about 75 cron asph will you! hehe Kirk, I send my 75 to Solm to get readjusted, now is perfectly ok. Jerry
innerimager Posted February 23, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 23, 2010 I'll chime in- The 75 lux is a favorite of mine, I reluctantly let go of the 75 cron not able to justify both, and the cron is absolutely great. But for me the lux is one of those magical lenses, my favorite portrait lens on film and digital. I had trouble focusing it on the M8 but for whatever reason (better adjusted RF?) i'm having no trouble on the M9 at 1.4 even without a magnifier though I prefer having my 1.33 mag on with the 75 lux. On my 0.85 M7, it is a total joy. best....Peter
