vanhulsenbeek Posted January 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just walked - a month ago - the Milford Track in New Zealand. (See a blog report here:Sander van Hulsenbeek Blog: Made the Milford! ) Last day: torrential rain, as forecast, which in this most rainiest part of the world means that most probably >10 cm's of rain fell in a few hours. Kept my new M9 (battery inside) plus lenses in a watertight Ortlieb bag which I kep closed the whole day. Photo's were made with an little underwater-proof Panasonic (Leica lens) . The M9 fogged over immediately when safely in the lodge. Took the battery out, lens off, let it warm up for a few hours: and no problems at all! Good stuff! Advertisement Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Hi vanhulsenbeek, Take a look here In praise of Ortlieb products for camera protection.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
redbaron Posted January 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2010 Nice work! Can I ask which model you took and how you carried it? I'm heading for PNG to do the Kokoda Track soon and these would be perfect.
vanhulsenbeek Posted January 23, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 23, 2010 I took the Aquacam: aptly named. I closed it well in the morning, zip plus turn-over strap. Then, when the waters came, I remembered that I did not take out the battery. However, and this is important, I could refrain myself from opening for a short peep. That probably saved the camera as the humidity must have been 100%. All is dependent on a having a dry spot to open the bag on the end of the day, of course. On less rainy day, there were no problems with the M9 at all. Great camera. See some panorama's at: http://sanderva.blogspot.com Kokoda Trail looks great! How would you rate it on a 1-5 scale, 5 being superhard?
redbaron Posted January 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2010 6. Although a bloke with no legs recently did it! I've done a lot of commercial work in PNG and I love the people, but I'm not looking forward to the hills. Did you, or would you trust the Ortlieb actually under water? vanhulsenbeek Posted January 23, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 23, 2010 Ortlieb does not guarantee underwater use I would trust the bags under a good and prolongued shower, but underwater for some time? Not really. You would need a Pelicase ther!
