When inserted in camera it won't show. camera says 'no memory card'. In either M8.2 or M9. Got a new 8Gb for M9, at times camera won't fire saying 'memory card full' and is full only 10%. mby Posted October 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 9, 2009 SanDisk Extreme lll Sd HC 4Gb,never had problem on Canon MKlll or M8.2 I keep each card 'proprietary': Canon stays in Canon, Leica in Leica one (4.Gb) fried after using on M9, No help in re-formatting on Mac. When inserted in camera it won't show. camera says 'no memory card'. In either M8.2 or M9. Got a new 8Gb for M9, at times camera won't fire saying 'memory card full' and is full only 10%. Anyone has had similar issues? Switching off camera and back on solves the issue. Had the same issue today and can help: There seems to be a firmware error so that the M9 displays 'no card' when it should actually be 'not the right format' or 'inconsistent card'... Here's how I fixed it: Formatting on a Mac won't help as it cannot be done in FAT32 (only FAT), which is required for SDHC; format it from Windows, then it should be recognized by the M9; then format again when in the Leica. 'Memory Card Full' is similar, it means (at least in my case) that the M9 ran out of folder numbers (so your folder is named '999LEICA'); one might assume that resetting the folder number would help, but it didn't here; so I deleted the folder when the card was in the computer, did the 'reset folder number' when the card was back in the Leica, next had to reset the entire camera (might have done another round of 'reset folder number'), formatted the card again and it finally worked! - Some actions might be redundant... Hope this help for you as well! Best regards, Michael P.S.: You could also use SD Memory Card Formatting Software | SD/SDHC Memory Card | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global to format from Windows... piero Posted October 9, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted October 9, 2009 Thank you Michael, I sorted out a way to format in FAT. but is tricky. Maybe a firmware update will help. By the way, nice bike you have. What exhaust is that? I ride a K1100RS, 175.000km
wlaidlaw Posted October 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 9, 2009 The ability to format any drive to FAT32 in Mac OSX is something that many of us Mac aficionados had expected to be incorporated into Snow Leopard. We did not get but instead got a whole load of nasty bugs instead - ho humm. I just spent an hour today trying to get my Xerox Phaser 8400 printer to work in Snow Leopard and the 10.6 driver just does not work, with screeds of garbage coming out of the printer, even after a re-install. Luckily I found that re-installing the old 10.5 driver from Xerox's website worked fine Wilson

Your flying brick ain't too bad either! - Particularly impressive mileage!!! Best, Michael
piero Posted October 10, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted October 10, 2009 Wilson: I had the same feeling that many bugs came along with Snow Leopard. Including communication with AirPort and routers. I have to reset twice a week, minimum. Michael: the nurburgring... what a dream... maybe one day I'll go.
jonoslack Posted October 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, Michael. I'm feeling very smug about this - I always do mac updates when they come out . . .. but I passed on this because I was worried about my old Epson 4000 - seems like it was a smart move. So I'll live with 10.5.8 for the time being.
Shootist Posted October 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 10, 2009 So the moral of this story is buy a old PC, CPU speed and amount of memory unimportant, with Windows XP on it, home or pro (whatever you can find cheap), for just this type of thing. I myself don't have this problem as I don't have a M9 and I do have all Windows PC's. Gota love those Mac's though.

Dear Jono, Sorry about the misunderstanding, Snow Leopard is not at fault at all; I'm running 10.6.1 without any problems (I did a reinstall, my wife's iMac got an update). Best regards, Michael P.S.: I could tell stories about WiFi on a ThinkPad w/ Vista... P.S.2: As you apparently have some reasonable access to Leica: where could one send firmware issues like the inability to format working SD cards regardless of previous file format? Tell that to all the people having problems with it. That is why I said a old PC with XP on it. Vista is a POS OS. Why do you think it only lasted 2 years and XP is still being sold and or people being able to downgrade to it from Vista.

Why do you think it only lasted 2 years and XP is still being sold and or people being able to downgrade to it from Vista. No problems here with Snow Leopard. User error often goes unrecognised. The OP’s experience with his memory card is a case in point. The SanDisk Extreme III 4GB card comes last in the compatibility chart on Leica’s M9 FAQ downloadable from: Leica Camera AG - Downloads It doesn’t mean that the card won’t work but it does mean that other cards are to be preferred. I'm not sure that Leica could have been any plainer in their advice.
mjh Posted October 10, 2009 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2009 The ability to format any drive to FAT32 in Mac OSX is something that many of us Mac aficionados had expected to be incorporated into Snow Leopard. Huh? Disk Utility can format drives to FAT32. While you can only select “FAT” without specifying FAT16 or FAT32, DiskUtility uses FAT16 or FAT32 as appropriate, depending on the partition size. wlaidlaw Posted October 10, 2009 Share #14 Posted October 10, 2009 No problems here with Snow Leopard. User error often goes unrecognised. Are you using FireWire connected external hard drives with Snow Leopard. If you are without problems, you are one of the very few. Apple technical currently admit they have no cure for the 10810 Finder Error on wake from sleep but say they are hoping to solve it in 10.6.2 - so operator error - I don't think so. There are a lot of threads on Apple Discussion Forums on it with no solutions posted to date. Snow Leopard also has problems with many printers older than about 2 years. I am having to use Unix Footmatic drivers for some of my older HP printers. Most of my scanners don't work properly any more on my Snow Leopard Macs with no 10.6 drivers available. Poor coordination between Apple and device suppliers seems to have been rife. Wilson
Mark Pope Posted October 10, 2009 Share #15 Posted October 10, 2009 Maybe I'm being a bit dumb, and I'm reluctant to state the obvious (but here goes...),but wouldn't you be better off formatting the card in the camera? I have never formatted a card, be it SD or CF on a PC (or Mac for that matter), preferring to format the cards in-camera. I've never had any problems. At least then you can be sure the card is formatted correctly for the camera. Just my 0.2p worth... Cheers Mark

While you can only select “FAT” without specifying FAT16 or FAT32, DiskUtility uses FAT16 or FAT32 as appropriate, depending on the partition size. The challenge is the 'can format'; my SDHC 16G gets formatted as FAT16, no matter what you try (except if you go commandline). - Looks like the intelligence of DU in choosing the right format is too much focused on HDs... I can see that being a real pain. Presumably this problem only manifests itself with cards that have previously been used in another camera? New cards are OK are they? Hope you get a firmware update soon to sort this out. Cheers Mark
