Bo_Lorentzen Posted May 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ever since I unpacked the M8 and found the charger had a 12v plug I have wanted to charge using a solar battery of sorts.. I played with the carabiner with a solar panel style gizmos from solio etc... those proved a bit to lightweight for the job.. some could start the charge but nobody could finish the job. So I talked with a factory I work with in china and got them to modify a laptop strength charger for me, adding a 12v out and a USB port. after all what is a good day without a few tunes from the iPod. This week I received a box with 3 copies of prototype number 1. it works just as hoped, the battery charges in a full day of California sun. and it is able to deliver a full charge to the leica battery. actually I am pretty sure it will do several charges, but did not have a bunch of flat batteries to toss at it yet. The battery is 400g 2700mAh a bit lightweight for a laptop, but very portable, and it will put a charge on my netbook just fine. chris_tribble Posted May 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 4, 2009 Neat - the only problem in the UK is that it's a typical cloudy, wet Bank Holiday . Clearly have to move!

veraikon Posted May 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 4, 2009 Good . Possibly a serious solution for hikers/trekkers in the outback /cabins without electricity...
Delfi_r Posted May 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 4, 2009 Great work! Living in Spain, more sunny than the typical european region, it would be great to use it. The unit with a set of plugs for the Leica Charger (or any other manufacturer), the Ipod and the Notebook..... would be a great success here.
