Perspectics Posted May 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2008 I like mine in the nude or scantily dressed, say, Luigi and the collapsible 90 f4 Elmar! Or...hm...hard to decide. I think mine needs change occasionally. Maybe you should ask what to wear for dinner, to work, for shopping... then I could come up with an appropriate list. Oh, Chris, the reverse side of the hood says "Leica" and looks even better!
Daniel Ortego Posted May 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2008 Well, I have the silver M8 and the silver 50-lux and I agree that it’s a very nice look. I also have the silver 24-Elmarit although the black lens hood kills it. I have a silver 35-cron on hold to round out the speed bump. Clearly, I’m a silver whore too! wparsonsgisnet Posted May 20, 2008 Share #7 Posted May 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry, beauty is more than skin deep. An M8 with a 24mm lens on it (even with the inexpensive metal hood that I use) makes me know that the image will not be able to be bettered. You talk about intrinsic value! farnz Posted May 20, 2008 Share #10 Posted May 20, 2008 For me it's the 35/2.5 Color-Skopar Pancake lens for its unobtrusiveness. On a black M8 in stealth mode (all logos covered). Pete.

JumpStart Posted May 20, 2008 Share #12 Posted May 20, 2008 My personal preference here is a Black M8, with a black 28mm Elmarit - current edition. It's the package I originally bought, and the one, I like the look of the most. I found the image posted earlier showing the M8 with black tape coving the M8 logo interesting. I understand people want to do that, buy often wonder why. I would do it in a location I was worried about, but on the other hand, I would not bring my M8 to that location. Just wondering DBK
Mauribix Posted May 20, 2008 Author Share #13 Posted May 20, 2008 I found the image posted earlier showing the M8 with black tape coving the M8 logo interesting. I understand people want to do that, buy often wonder why. I would do it in a location I was worried about, but on the other hand, I would not bring my M8 to that location. Just wondering DBK I always wondered this too, until I heard a painter in Montmarte (Paris) cryin' at me, while looking at my camera, sayin' that if I wanted to take a picture of him I should have given him some money. Matter of fact I wasn't taking pictures of him, I was photographing some shadows in the wall, and I passed by... After few seconds, I heard him once again cryin' at the croud that I was using a Leica, and I had 30.000€ pending on my neck! I wish I covered that red dot and M8 writings before. Printmaker Posted May 20, 2008 Share #14 Posted May 20, 2008 I found the image posted earlier showing the M8 with black tape coving the M8 logo interesting. I understand people want to do that, buy often wonder why. I would do it in a location I was worried about, but on the other hand, I would not bring my M8 to that location. Just wondering DBK Older Leicas were/are very discrete. The logo is engraved into the top plate. The M8 has the red dot and an out of proportion white "M8" on the front. Very tacky, in my opinion. Might as well put keep a large price tag on the camera as it serves the same purpose. I'm always tempted to black them both out - and I don't do street photography. FWITW: my black M8 wears a 35 Summicron IV most of the time. Tom
chris_livsey Posted May 20, 2008 Share #15 Posted May 20, 2008 I cover the logos both because they say LEICA and because they don't. In a situation with lots of other photographers a plain black camera attracts less attention (talking at the zoo for example) from them and keeps the polite enquiries down. That's Leica specific. I wouldn't cover a Nikon or Canon in that situation. Unspecific; on the "street" actually any logo attracts attention. It is text, we read text, it's a kind of conditioning I think. Plain is dismissed I feel at a subliminal level. I would cover the logo on a Nikon or Canon just the same. Perhaps knowing the logo is covered gives me more confidence in my approach thinking the above is working on the subject, who knows. Third I have a British "don't show off" no ostentation cultural conditioning. The dangerous situation is not an issue because, by choice, neither I, nor my camera, any camera, would be there. Amoment Posted May 20, 2008 Share #16 Posted May 20, 2008 "Oooooo a Leica, I bet that was expensive". I would really like something to cover the logos, other than grotty tape, I won't even wear clothing that advertises the manufactures name. SJP Posted May 20, 2008 Share #17 Posted May 20, 2008 Reality check: 99.999833333 % of the world population do not know what a Leica is and in fact do not even want to know. So why cover the logo? I was on a short holiday last week and none of my friends knew what it was & thought it was some old contraption. Same last sunday visying friends - most people thought I was shooting film. Daniel Ortego Posted May 20, 2008 Share #20 Posted May 20, 2008 Its been pretty slow on the from recently so sporting views of best dressed is as good as anything else I suppose. More on point, I don’t much care for the red Leica logo although not because I’m concerned with getting mugged. In fact, I’m still looking for one of that titanium logo’s that really looks great on the silver body like this one originally posted by another member. In any event, this is all in good fun. Besides, who in their right mind would not find this baby very attractive! Regards, Welcome, dear visitor!
