Trying to make M8+Aperture use easier...

I guess I'm somewhat obsessed with this whole Aperture M8 thing. I've been using Eoin's hack like many of us, and a few months ago I made an Aperture Import Automator to make it easier to run M8 DNG files through Adobe Converter and get them into Aperture.

The problem, in my opinion, is that this is still too much effort. Normal people, even photo pros and amateurs who geek out on their gear, shouldn't have to dig around in the bowels of their computer operating system just to move files from one device to another. It's stupid.

I'm not knocking the creative efforts of this commuity here; instead, I'm trying to make them even closer to what we would have expected Apple to provide themselves.

So, I had another go at this whole process, and created some software that does two things:

(1) Automate the application to the OS Raw.plist outlined in Eoin's Hack

(2) Install my Import Automator

I also wanted to put all this on a website outside the forum, because it's frankly hard to find stuff in here without going through every post, and we shouldn't make everything sticky either. I just don't think a forum is a great source for distributing software.

Anyway, the new installer is on my website, and the link is here:

There might still be bugs, let me know. Suggestions too.

Well done Ian, you've gone out of your way to make things a little simpler. Fair play to you.

Perhaps I can call on your excellent script abilities later to automate the installation of Exiftools and run another script I've hacked to modify the camera model name in all DNG files within the Aperture library. The reason for this is if and when Apple support the M8 it will require the altering of existing M8 files within the library to preserve the adjustments made to versions based on the profile we're using now. Later when support is introduced Apple will have it's own profile and it's likely this will alter the colour of the versions already in the database. :) I'm assuming that Apples version will be an improvement on what we're currently using

Let's do it! Tell me when you're ready.

I would assume so too. Presumably they'll take the time to profile the camera uniquely. The question is only, when they will get around to it.
