jaapv Posted March 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for the typo in the title.... A forum member kindly let me use his 9.8 mm lens on my M8. I took this from a distance of about 30 cm. The offset microlenses handled it, without problem. The IR cut filter, which was within the optical cell, shows no sign of cyan vignetting, proving my point that incorporating the filter in the lenses would solve all problems. The lens vignettes just a little. In the second version of the shot I "pulled out" the corners of the image using DCE tools to hide the vignetting without cropping. Rather successful I think. I may have applied slightly more sharpening in the first version.
Advertisement Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Relly wide really works M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
larry Posted March 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2007 Jaap, This shot reminds of of the Jag that was tailgating me on my way home from work yesterday. I put my foot to the pedal and he turned into a telephoto shot. :-) Your idea about putting the IR filter inside the lens makes sense for the M8, except that I've heard the filter can cause undesirable results when used with film. I haven't shot film with an IR filter mounted -- do you know anything about this? Larry

petermcwerner Posted March 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jaap, What 9.8 lens? Joe The only lens of such focal length I know of is theTegea 9.8mm/1.8.made by Kinoptik in Paris. Very interesting, but a bit heavy to carry around. It is supposed to be the widest non-fish-eye wide angle lens and still in production. I did not ask for the current price, it used to be over $6.000 a few years ago. Taken with the Tegea on an Epson R-D1 - Photo by Wolfgang Rabe

I was very much taken with it and it works superbly on the M8.
jaapv Posted March 25, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted March 25, 2007 geez, the best looking Ford Scorpio for years... Sorry. It should be Mondeo. 20% of the car are Ford Mondeo parts. Fortunately - it made it the # 1 in the Auto Motor und Sport reliabilty test.

Vivek Iyer Posted March 25, 2007 Share #17 Posted March 25, 2007 Peter, I would try some shots surrounded by shade and not directly pointing the lens at very bright sources (to control flare). This is to make sure it is properly centered and collimated. Sharpness and details out of this lens are really excellent though as you have observed yourself, the contrast is on the low side. See Jaap's samples. The vignetting in the first image is quite uniform, for example.

Here I sharpened more. In converting for Web, I lose a lot of contrast and saturation, I must play more with this lens, it is not an easy one to master. jaapv Posted May 8, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted May 8, 2007 And here is the lens this is all about. I found one at half the going rate on the Internet, was lucky to get a Leica M adapter from another source and here it came together just now. I may be using this lens without a lenshood though
