Santa Fe Ski Area

One can also extend the Leitz Telyt 560 mm f/5.6 and turn it, from an angle of view point, into an equivalent 35 mm FF format of 235.2 mm focal length. From a distance of close to 30 miles, I pointed the extended lens into a part of the Santa Fe Ski Area, as indicated by the upper right hand corner of the previous image, and got this shot.

Of course, this only works well with minimal presence of turbulence in dry air. In the US Southwest, with its dry climate, it is not unusual at all to be able to see for a hundred miles horizontally.

Marco, Virgil,

Many thanks for your comments. So, I thought it would be fun to add another factor of 2 and find out what I get.

Here is an image from yesterday late afternoon (I am afraid the full size image looks really better but can't be shown here).

Here is an image showing the Santa Fe Ski Area to the right and Santa Fe Baldy to the left at slightly over 13,000 feet.

I shot it last May with an M9 and a Tele-Elmar 135/4.

The town in the foreground is White Rock, located next to the pretty deep Rio Grande Canyon.
