Advertisement Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Hi adespen, Take a look here Melbourne Australia meetings?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
baci Posted February 16, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2014 I'm in if there's any other interest...
MarkP Posted February 16, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2014 Count me in! I was getting irritated about all of the European meetings in exotic locations which I wouldn't be getting to (although Australia is probably somewhat exotic for the Europeans). andybarton Posted February 16, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2014 All you have to do is post a thread that says "Meeting will be at Harry's Bar, on High Street at 12:00 on 1st March" "Build it and they will come"
baci Posted February 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2014 Well let's do it then! MarkP I note you're based in Sydney - do you come to Melbourne often? If so we could build a date around your availability. Adespen - where in general terms are you located? Do you have a prefered venue?
harvey999999 Posted February 17, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2014 I'm interested. Based in the NT but looking for an excuse to visit Melbourne. Best you set a date to suit yourself and the others and I'll see if it fits.

I do have to fit around work, wife and kids with pre-HSC study but perhaps suggest a few dates and see which one gets the best response. A Saturday would suit me better than a weekday as I can fly down on the Friday night. Regards all, Mark
adespen Posted March 20, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted March 20, 2014 Thorsten Overgaard is coming to Melbourne in April 4-7 to do a workshop. Interested? See his website. I can't make it as I am filming and teaching most of that time. I could catch up the Saturday though.
baci Posted March 21, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 21, 2014 Hi I would certainly be interested except for the cost. Faced with the choice of spending the thousands on him or investing in a decent used film body (M6 I'm thinking) I'd sooner get the hardware. I'm keen to develop my technique but I also know my own organic growth is not slowing and I'm enjoying that process enormously! One day, when cash is a bit freer, I'll do an Eric Kim course or a Thorsten course. I haven't forgotten about our meet up either, just waiting until I get some free time to set the date! Cheers Michael
erl Posted March 23, 2014 Share #10 Posted March 23, 2014 I'm tied up with a lot of personal situations at present, but since I live here I guess I should opt in. A suggestion is to invent a reason, eg. a small competition such as the 'One Challenge' that happens annually. This October it it will be in Istanbul. I can thoroughly recommend the occasion, (been to a few) and 'Stanbul is a fabulous destination. Back on topic, a comp modelled on the Challenge could give impetus to a meeting, rather than just sitting round drinking, eating etc. Of course I'm happy to eat and drink too, of course. Regarding dates, I can time shift most of my stuff so I will blend in with what's decided.
adespen Posted March 27, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted March 27, 2014 I am in for a one challenge. We can meet at Harry's Bar ( if it exists) and move on from there or in the city. Weekend is best for me too. I am living in Malvern and working in Burwood. One camera, one lens and 36 shots!
MarkP Posted March 27, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 27, 2014 One camera. One lens. One SD card .

baci Posted March 31, 2014 Share #14 Posted March 31, 2014 OK, then I'll take this opportunity to draw a digital line in the sand and say let's do this. I'm going to suggest we meet downstairs at Young & Jacksons on the corner of Burke and Flinders on account of it being about as central as central gets. As a born and bred Melbournian I'm ashamed to say I've never set foot inside that pub but I'm presuming it will be suitable for our purposes. I will further suggest we do it early afternoon on a Saturday - objections of course will be entertained, this is a starting point! I will absent myself from the challenge, but please proceed without me. I'm really really interested in how others go hunting for shots - what they look for in terms of lighting, how they preset, how they interact and all that stuff. Oh, and experience with various suppliers of, and inputs to, the process along the way. Shall we do this in a month? Let's say Saturday, May 3? 2.00pm? Once date and place confirmed I'll start another thread as suggested earlier containing those details.
erl Posted March 31, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 31, 2014 Young & Jackson's is a nice pub and has some excellent cuisine for those wishing to lunch. Not cheap, but good value. I have pencilled in Saturday, May 2, but remain flexible. Baci, you should consider joining in the Challenge. It is a whole lot of 'tense' fun. Anybody can win and not necessarily the best photog either, whatever that is. It is also a great learning curve that is not easily obtained at other times. Let's see how many starters can be attracted.
adespen Posted March 31, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted March 31, 2014 Digitally pixeling me in too. Baci come too so we all get to meet. The challenge is to meet a mob of strangers and work together, not to win any competitions.
NZDavid Posted March 31, 2014 Share #17 Posted March 31, 2014 Date doesn't work for me but I'd love to pop over "the ditch" sometime. I've only ever met two other Leica photogs in NZ and we've never had a Leica meeting this side of the globe. Queenstown might also be a nice venue sometime. erl Posted March 31, 2014 Share #18 Posted March 31, 2014 Adespen, simply participating is 'winning'. NZ David, if you have other workable dates, post them. We locals can (mostly) accommodate 'foreigners'. Don't come by boat though. Tony Abbott might get wind of your arrival. LOL.
NZDavid Posted March 31, 2014 Share #19 Posted March 31, 2014 Will do. Yes, I don't want to get impounded. The supermarkets have already stripped the shelves of kiwi products by the sound of it… Welcome here anytime, too. We also have four seasons in one day, just like Melbourne. erl Posted March 31, 2014 Share #20 Posted March 31, 2014 Welcome here anytime, too. We also have four seasons in one day, just like Melbourne. Bloody copycats, you Kiwis! Could be tempted. I have been told NZ has a microcosm of everything in the world. That alone excites my curiosity. It's not just Haka talk, is it?
