Don'tknowmuch Posted September 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all. In the pursuit of reducing the number of bits and pieces I have to juggle I was thinkning of getting a Cosina Voigtlander VC II meter and semi-permanently attaching it to my M2. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this meter. It seems quite expensive and looks a little flimsy, but I've not handled one myself - thoughts? Advertisement Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hi Don'tknowmuch, Take a look here VC II Meter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dicko101 Posted September 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2009 I've had one on my M4 for a while and it's a great attachment. It's an accurate meter and the only things I have to complain about are that if you pull your M in and out of a bag constantly, the ISO is liable to change so just make sure you check before shooting and if your bag is a little on the small side, it's easy for the VCII to become dislodged. It doesn't sit at all tightly on my M but I'd much rather have that than it scratching the top plate. Build quality it fairly good too.
Don'tknowmuch Posted September 13, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 13, 2009 Thanks for reply. Does this mean that there isn't some sort of wheel locking device onto the flash shoe? Actually, looking at the top of my M2 I wonder if the VCII would cover over the shutter speed selection dial? That wouldn't be a good thing! Jim. I also use it with my M2 and find it pretty accurate. I'd certainly recommend it. Stefano.

iShutterbug Posted September 13, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2009 Hi, Jim, I just returned from vacation and I used my VCII meter a lot. I wear trifocals and I like a viewfinder mounted on top of my camera as it gives me a better field of view, but there's no room for anything else. So I attached my little meter to a lanyard around my neck and it is easily available to use as a hand-held meter. I remember reading that its exposure reading is the approximate equivalent of a 90mm lens view, mostly in the lower half, I take that into consideration as I point it in the general direction of what I'm shooting and it's worked very well. Also, take along an extra set of batteries as its battery cover is not too tight and it's easy to accidentally bump it open and lose the small button batteries. I put a small amount of scotch tape on it and didn't have any trouble on the trip. (I'm also wearing it with my Leica II in my avatar. ) Welcome, dear visitor! Don'tknowmuch Posted September 15, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted September 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks all. VCII it is I should think. All I then need is a nice ever-ready case with enough clearance and then I'll be a one-item man again. I was thinking of buying some leather and having a go myself. Or, there's a hand-made shoe shop in Totnes in Devon which is near where my Wife's family live. I may take my M2 there and see if that's an avenue worth exploring... It ought to be possible to make a nice case like my OM camera's ever ready case? Jim.

I've been looking for a way to carry that meter somewhere other than on my camera without fear of losing it. Thanks
kadachi Posted July 27, 2011 Share #9 Posted July 27, 2011 Hi Erfahrener, I, too, am curious as to how you carry the VC II meter. Would love to somehow attach it to the same strap as the camera itself. Thank you for your input.
SteveYork Posted July 30, 2011 Share #10 Posted July 30, 2011 Word is that the battery door is flimsy. And mine was hard to keep closed. But I didn't use it much more then a month, because it popped off and fell into the ocean. That's the other problem -- they pop off the hot shoe easily. Since then, I've ordered two meters -- a Gossen and a Sekonic and both didn't work new out of the box. I won't go back to the Voightlander, because I prefer analog. I taped tthe adaptor, a 15mm-finder and the level carefully on my IIIG, so far it didn´t come off. Will try it with the meter now, in case it doesn´t work, I will give a feedback. best GEORG
