danielericweiss Posted June 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone elses rangefinder window look like this? Not sure if it's supposed to be this way, with that little L shaped part sticking up slightly...?

rob_x2004 Posted June 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2010 I don't have that apparent sloping gap with the yellow. Could be worth following up..
aesop Posted June 30, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 30, 2010 ...just checked both my MPs and neither has the L-shape feature nor the yellow/orange bit that is visible in yours, Daniel. Have you determined if your focusing is out?
danielericweiss Posted June 30, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted June 30, 2010 My focusing is actually fine, but I have been having intermittent light leaks. maybe every 6 rolls or so, here's a couple examples. have deduced (with some help) that light could be leaking through here. earleygallery Posted June 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Possible, it looks like your rangefinder unit isn't sitting flush internally against the 'windows' and light leaks can occur from the rangefinder/viewfinder area. However, the leak looks like it could also be a shutter problem to me, due to the bands which would correspond to the shutter aperture/travel. Either way you need to send it off to the repair man for attention.

If it were a shutter problem could it really produce 3 bands as shown in one of the frames with the rest of the photo properly exposed in between the bands? adan Posted June 30, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 30, 2010 1. It does look as though something is out of position in that window. 2. Light leaks from that area are quite possible. I had an M4-2 in which the rewind clutch lever "R" had too long a shaft, and thus stood out away from the body. And it leaked light like a cathedral window right onto whatever frame I had last exposed as it sat in the gap between shutter and take-up spool between shoots. (A machinist where I worked ground about .5mm off the back for the "R" lever shaft to seat it tightly, and the leak went away). The removal of the self-timer mechanism post-M4 leaves a hollow area that light can transit from the front top right of the cameras if there are gaps in the assembly.
