carlosecpf Posted September 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, After reading this forum thoroughly and visiting Thorsten's blog, I've decide to get a D2 off eBay. This marvel camera arrived on friday, so I had the chance to play with it the entire weekend. So far, I am VERY pleased with the results! I just cannot get over the fact that I wasted the past 5 years without this gem. I took it for a walk in Brooklyn, NY in a overcast day. I am really happy with the results! Here are some of the pictures. I hope you like them! Of course, critics and constructive feedback are very welcomed! Thanks, Carlos Welcome, dear visitor! krabat Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2009 Very nice, Carlos. My congratulations! Thank you for sharing your photographs with us. Regards, Peter.
Overgaard Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2009 Yes, isn't it crazy. It looks like you had the new M9 out for trial, and all it is is a cheap five year old Leica ;-) You should be able to get the files VERY sharp but I guess you uploaded to the forum and let the forum software resize them? I like the first with the barbecue guy and the fireplug. The light is great and I particularly like the straight lines in the first. The D2 is in fact very good for architecture work where the lines should be straight. Congratulations on your new camera!
John Thawley Posted September 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2009 I also like how the Digilux 2 is so forgiving in its ability to give a "correct" exposure. It never ceases to amaze me how the camera doesn't care if you're slightly under or slightly over. The jpeg quality is always nice. And, of course, when they're spot on... they are scary good. carlosecpf Posted September 7, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi Guys, I thank you for taking the time and looking at my pictures! I am really impressed by the D2! So much that I've already bought a 2nd one! Could not help it! I believe the forum have resized the pictures during the uploading process, so they don't look as sharp as they are in my computer. Thus, I am sharing the following link with you so you can check them out in a better resolution: Brooklyn I've never been to this part of Brooklyn before (Downtown Brooklyn and Clinton Hill) and I must say it is a myriad of photograph opportunities. I will definitely go back again there by myself, because yesterday all my friends were rushing me every time I decided to stop and took a picture. Best, Carlos
jvan01 Posted September 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The D2 also takes really smooth indoor pictures thanks to its built-in bounce flash. It's really the most compact bounce flash setup I've used.

leica@fuse.net Posted September 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2009 Carlos, Her "sisters" - (D1) and (R7) miss her, even though she wasn't here long!!! Tears in their respective lenses.... :-( Oh.... it's so sickening to hear them whine...... Bob BTW: Nick: "Mr. D300" says "Don't miss her a bit....." :-)
pleeson Posted September 8, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 8, 2009 Stunning pictures! with the Leica lens 'signature' all over them. Wow! That camera ought to be illegal -- it turns the most mundane, everyday objects into artworks. Well Done....

carlosecpf Posted September 8, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted September 8, 2009 Hi all, Thank you very much for the encouraging feedback, but I must say the D2 makes easier taking good pictures! I use Aperture to manage my workflow and, thanks to John W. posts on his blog, I am being much more productive with it. All my post-processing is done in Aperture as well. For the pictures above, I used only the "saturation", "contrast", "recovery" (to correct over only exposed areas) and vignetting controls. In my view this minimal pp and I always try to stick with this, trying to get the best picture I can in camera. No sharpening or noise reduction were applied. I converted the BW picture above using Nik's Silver Effects in Aperture. I guess that was it. Best, Carlos
carlosecpf Posted September 8, 2009 Author Share #15 Posted September 8, 2009 Oh! By the way, all those pictures were JPEGs, not RAW. As Thorsten says in his website, life is too short to shoot RAW!
wda Posted September 10, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 10, 2009 Carlos, thank you for such a great collection of well-observed pictures in Brooklyn. I hope that those who lust after the latest gear will look at your results with a D2.

If I might proffer one piece of advice, I would be careful not to over-sharpen in your digital workflow. Your fine equipment doesn't demand it. Regards. elansprint72 Posted September 10, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 10, 2009 Welcome to the D2 circle of trust. Isn't is a gem? Mine died and has been away for about 3 weeks, over the last week I've manage to divert myself learning the complexities of a Nikon D700 but I can't wait to get out with the old faithful again. carlosecpf Posted September 11, 2009 Author Share #20 Posted September 11, 2009 Nice series, Carlos. If I might proffer one piece of advice, I would be careful not to over-sharpen in your digital workflow. Your fine equipment doesn't demand it. Regards. Hi Dave! I've have recently learned about differences in sharpening for printing and LCD outputs and I am testing various combinations.I am still trying to find the right balance in sharpening some images. I have sharpened the pictures on my Flicker page for printing purposes, but not the ones I've uploaded here in the forum. Thanks for your feedback. It is well regarded!
