andybarton Posted July 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My first two Leitax mounts arrived in the post today - very good, communicative service from David Lladó, I have to say. I decided to convert the 28 Elmarit (ROM) and the 60 Macro-Elmarit The 28 was a piece of cake, but the 60 is slightly more complicated, but David advises this on his instruction pages, which are clear and extremely helpful. I'm glad I did the 28 first, though. Both lenses mount on the D700 more smoothly and positively than the 50 Nikkor that I bought a a temporary lens, which is encouraging in a perverse way. Only had a 5 minute play in the garden this afternoon before the rains came, but I will post shots in the Photo section as and when. So far, so very good. BTW, I just cannot run down the battery in the D700. I have taken nearly 700 RAW + Fine jpg shots so far and the battery is only half empty. I have been really, really trying to run it down so as to condition it, but I just can't. Not even using the built in flash, chimping everything, etc. Maybe some other manufacturers could take a leaf out of this particular book More later. tomasis7 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2009 It is so cool I remember when I bought Nikon D70, I was a bit down when there were no adapters for LEica R to Nikon. Now maybe that's reason Leica quitted R line hehe. Who knows. Now I want see10-20 pictures of each lens. First pic shows how very good the lens is. Im curious.... giordano Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 BTW, I just cannot run down the battery in the D700. Not even using the built in flash, chimping everything, etc. Maybe some other manufacturers could take a leaf out of this particular book It runs down somewhat faster if you extend the time the exposure meter is active (Custom Settings, Timers/AE Lock, Auto meter-off delay). Mine is currently set at 1 minute. The practical reason for extending the time is that if you assign the AE-L/AF-L button press to AE Lock (hold), a press of the button will lock the auto exposure until you press the button again or the meter goes back to sleep. Using AF/VR lenses helps too, of course:D. But I still had two bars of charge left after 4 days on holiday, about 50:50 AF and MF lenses.

A real shame as Nikon IMHO dont have a good 35mm lens of their own.
andybarton Posted September 26, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted September 26, 2009 Focussing down to f5.6 allows the electronic focus confirmation to work. Beyond that, with my 28, most things are in focus anyway. For the rest, I haven't had a problem. If you are doing fast "street" type work, this isn't a combination for you anyway. I am extremely pleased with my D700 and Leitax mounted R glass.
andybarton Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted July 14, 2010 Exactly one year on, and I am pleased to say that my relationship with the D700 and my R-glass continues in a very harmonious vein. Since this thread was started, I have also converted my 90 Summicron-R (late 70s?) and my 250 f4 Telyt-R (mid 80s), both of which perform exactly as one would expect. I am extremely pleased with the way that the Nikon works with the R-glass, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this combination to anyone. Now, if I could find myself a decent 80 Summilux-R, everything in the SLR camp would be sweet
