dcoombs Posted March 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I normally shoot dng+jpg files, but if uploading pictures from the camera directly to my pc without using a card reader I can't get the computer to recognize the jpg files as distinct from the dng files. Normally I'd use a sandisk card reader to load the files, but one card I have seems slightly corrupted as the card reader can't read it. Connecting the M8 directly to the pc brings up the files, but shows them only as tiff at 10mg each (including the duplicate jpg files). Any thoughts as to how I can get the pc to recognize the jpgs as jpgs? Apologies for a query which may have been covered before, but I couldn't find a specific reference when searching the forum. Thanks, Doug
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Hi dcoombs, Take a look here Getting XP to distinguish JPGs from TIFF/DNG files . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted March 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2008 Try importing them through Lightroom. If you don't have Lightroom, use the 30 day demo to try it out. You have to be careful in Lightroom because it gives you the option to import as DNG, which is not what you want to do, as it will run the M8 DNG through a DNG conversion to a standard adobe DNG. Just select import files and they should show up as DNG files. Robert
dcoombs Posted March 24, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted March 24, 2008 Thanks, Robert. I'll try that. Will Lightroom also import the jpg copy or should I create that in the program? I need to send some shots through email, also. Doug
dcoombs Posted March 24, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted March 24, 2008 Robert, ignore my last question. I tried Lightroom and downloaded the pix. They did show up in the folder as both dng and jpg files. Thanks for the help!
